Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Porto Alegre Public Market, established in 1869, is a historic landmark featuring over 100 vendors offering a wide array of goods such as crafts, produce, snacks, and plants. It's a must-visit destination in the city along with other attractions like the Usina do Gasometro cultural center and scenic spots like Marinha do Brasil Park and Farroupilha Park. The market is known for its Brazilian food and crafts.
Lovely old fashion building done in the format of many european markets with lots of well stocked stalls from the mundane to great delicatessen. Worth a visit plus make sure after this you walk towards the river where you can take catamara to Barra Shopping or to Guati for just over 10R or else an hour trip looking at all tourist sights with a different company for 30R cash or 35 if you pay with credit card. Either worth making the time to do as gives you a unique perspective of this gorgeous clean air city.

Very cool place and pretty massive. Spanning two floors and plenty of shops ranging from groceries to restaurants, fresh fish to nuts and spices. It even had an antique fair and collectibles shops. You will always find something for yourself here.
Ricardo K — Google review
One of the best places visited in Porto Alegre. Plenty of restaurants, good food, drinks and all that a good market must have, inside a historical building. This placeud a must when visit Porto Alegre
Cesar C — Google review
Always a cultural experience being in any public market. 20th year since my first visit here. Survivor of fires and floods. Muito gente...
Mike S — Google review
Old building very not well taken care of. There are independent fish markets (complete with the authentic Yelling) and health food stores, but the rest is mediocre cafes, overpriced sit down food, mediocre padarias, insanity of panhandling and graffiti outside. Only reason I would come back is if- IF- I wanted fish from the fishmonger, Cafe do Mercado (also exists praia de belas) or Temakieria.
Levi W — Google review
Just wawooooooo....I adored

Nice local market. Fresh fish. Many restaurants including sushi. Amazing traiteur with wide variety of cheese (local and imported), as well as take away dishes and smoked meat (presunto, copa..). Lovely place to visit if you like good food !

Nestled by the picturesque harbor, Restaurante Gambrinus is a charming gem that has been delighting diners since 1889. This historic establishment beautifully marries rustic elegance with a sophisticated menu featuring an array of international dishes. Seafood lovers will revel in specialties like fillet of sole and conger eel sauce, while those craving something heartier can indulge in exquisite steaks and shrimp delicacies.
Salmon and Linguardo fish prepared perfectly. Next door to Naval if you want another top notch seafood restaurant. Located in the city market downtown. Parking is scarce, Uber in and taxi out.

The meal was great . The waiter and staff were very helpful. A great way to taste Brazilian. Traditional food.
Erik P — Google review
Great servings and good food. Yes it can be pricey, one of the most expensive restaurants on the public market but if you choose right from the menu you can get a great lunch for a decent price. You can get a glass of wine if not in the mood for a whole bottle. The bad side is that there ar very few vegetarian options. An omelette and a couple of vegetables in butter and that's it. The service is very good, friendly and attentive staff.

Located in the coastal Parque Moacyr Scliar, 360 POA Gastrobar is a futuristic-looking restaurant with large glass windows offering stunning 360-degree views of the area. It's situated on the lake of Guaiba and provides a perfect spot to enjoy breathtaking sunsets. The contemporary southern cuisine emphasizes premium meats and mostly organic ingredients. Visitors can also enjoy live music at sunset, making it a romantic and relaxing experience.
Great place for having drinks while watching the sunset on the Guaiba. For the best views, try to arrive a bit early and get the table on the far end of the restaurant :)
Leonardo S — Google review
We ordered some food and beers and everything good because you are in front of the river and the view was amazing. Nice place to go with friends, drink something and continue walking.
Jonathan ( — Google review
The place seems great, but the service and food don’t match the price! Tourist catch!

Highly recommended Gastrobar restaurant. Outstanding service, delicious food and desserts, clean and quite to spend a very pleasant time in there 100%. Amazing view of the Guaíba river.

Only had drinks, but location is perfect - on lake with nice views of park and lake with its sunset and activities (boats, jet skis). Had a small selection of beers, but fine. Live music at sunset was very relaxing and romantic.

Beautiful place to watch the sunset! The beer selection wasn’t big, but they also have a drink menu. Friendly service and live music.

Horrible service. The waiters mess up the table numbers, sometimes delivering an order to the wrong table. When I was there, then even spilled the fries sauce on top of one of my friends. Foods are not bad, drinks are not good. Try to avoid this mess.

Thai restaurant
Restaurant
Koh Pee Pee is a renowned Thai restaurant known for its traditional spicy dishes and themed decor, featuring Buddhas, bamboo, and lamps. The menu offers a range of spice levels to cater to different preferences. The luxurious dining establishment provides an authentic and cozy atmosphere with references to Thailand in its decoration. With three decades of experience, Koh Pee Pee has become a go-to destination for authentic Thai cuisine and the enchanting Thai ambiance.
I was searching for thai food as good as America, and I am proud to celebrate "Go to Koh Pee Pee!!" As loud as I can. (Archer voice: "Hey, Phrasing!!!") It tastes like I'm at home in America with a phenomenal tangy pad thai sauce, just not spicy enough (local palate). Red curry was also excellent and grilled chicken had the best peanut sauce I ever had. Fried banana and ice cream, and coconut creme Brule, both exceptional too. Everything was an 8/10 or higher. As i was taking someone who didn't like Asian food before this: it completely converted them. I will definitely be back.
Levi W — Google review
Food was tasteless and mediocre, with no flavor whatsoever. Shrimp was hard in the appetizers and soup. The lack of spices was noticeable in all dishes, not real authentic Thai food per my taste. If you have tried real Thai food, you'll be really disappointed. The noodles were hard and all stuck together. Somehow, the meat was tender and eatable. The tea was diluted, and room temperature. I wouldn't be going back. The service was really good even tho no one spoke English or Spanish, they make it work. I was surprised they had an English menu. The restaurant was pretty and quiet. But way to pricy is not worth it. I want good food, not a pretty restaurant.
M V — Google review
Outstanding food. I had the fried shrimp rice, Pad Thai with pork, pork spring rolls and chocolate mousse. Everything was delicious. The place was full on Monday night and the service was still great as fast. One of the best restaurants I’ve tried in Brazil.
G C — Google review
The food was amazing but a bit pricey. If you are traveling from the U.S like I was, there is no lunch specials, so it’s equivalent as ordering everything off the full price menu. I didn’t mind paying the extra $$ for the meal because the food did taste super fresh. That was something that I noted. Overall, very chic place and super fast service. 10 min max for each plate to come out. Will be revisiting when I’m in POA.
Leo L — Google review
Greaf food and the best service! Thanks Michele! You are excelent.
Denis L — Google review
I have lived in Hong Kong for 10 years and had many trips to Thailand. I love Thai food and this place must be one of the best place I had Thai food outside of Thailand. Great food, atmosphere and service. Seeing only Asian people in the kitchen says it all. Highly recommend!
Chris B — Google review
I was in Porto Alegre for the World Cup with two friends. Food was absolutely exquisite...I had pad thai. The portions are very big, and one could split an order between two people. The decor was beautiful -- you truly felt as if you are in Thailand. The restaurant itself looks like a two story bamboo tree house with ornate decorations. Service was very good, and the waiter even spoke English. There's a comfortable waiting area upstairs, in which you can order drinks. A must if you are in Porto Alegre...it was the best Thai food I've ever had.
Jason F — Google review
The restaurant is simply perfect. The food is incredible and don't be afraid, if you don't like anything too spicy there are plenty of options you can choose. The decoration and the service are also incredible points.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Porto Alegre, Atelier de Massas is a charming Italian restaurant that doubles as an art gallery. With its cozy atmosphere and sunny yellow walls adorned with contemporary artworks, this eatery offers a delightful dining experience where culinary artistry meets visual creativity. The menu boasts an impressive selection of freshly made pasta varieties paired with rich, flavorful sauces that cater to every palate.
I love this restaurant. It is a big highlight when I come to Porto Alegre from Canada. The carbonara is exceptional.
David Z — Google review
Pleasant place to eat a rustic pasta. Simple service and very straight forward. There’s a buffet of Italian charcuterie and other interesting small plates as appetizers. I think they should serve bread before food. Every Italian should have a handcrafted bread. Great pasta dish as we eat tortellini.
Gil M — Google review
It's a really vintage place, with lots of cool weird plates that look very haute cuisine and are kinda good. Their pasta is amazing, great selection of wine, craft beer, nice deserts, coffee. I'd say it's very pricey.
Yuri N — Google review
Simply the best pasta I have ever had. I remember going there for the first time more than a decade ago and thinking the same thing. Still the best. It is a bit on the expensive side, specially if you like to have a nice wine on the side but it's worth it, you should go at least once to know what is like to taste such amazing pasta. I should also add that the service is very nice and the atmosphere is lovely, cozy with a lot of artwork on the walls, not upscale at all. Also the muscial selection includes stuff like John Coltrane. Pretty cool.
Lais T — Google review
This is Italian restaurant where fresh pasta in different sources served. You can enjoy a buffet of antipasti which consists of cheeses, Parma ham rolls with cheese with figa chutney etc. Delicious! I didn't enjoy very much the pasta we ordered, as tomato sauce was more like soup and very sour for my taste and stomach. Espresso was brilliant.
Olga K — Google review
Really great pasta, I ordered the spaghetti carbonara. But with just okay service
Larry P — Google review
High expectations, even higher disappointment (spoiler: I got food poisoning). I had read and heard a lot of good things about this place, both in guide books and from local friends. It was horrible. Most important, I got food poisoning from eating there. I know it’s that because it’s the only place where my wife and I didn’t eat the same thing and she was fine. I spent the night throwing up and had nausea for 3 days. Beyond that, the Antipasti were just ok, really nothing special, and some cheeses actually not good (such as the gorgonzola, super dry). Also, the service was bad. The waiter wasn’t very friendly, and not professional at all. We were not even done with the Antipasti that he was bringing our pasta already. The positives: portions were big and the pasta tasted good (but obviously something wasn’t fresh) Without the food poisoning I would have given it 3/5 because of the Antipasti and service, but in this case it clearly deserves 0/5.
AJ J — Google review
One of Porto Alegre's most traditional restaurants, located downtown in a old small house not much have changed in the past 15 years, there are sitting in the floors of the house. On the first floor you have on the best antipasti buffet you will ever try. The pasta are all fresh and very well served. The wine selection it's one of the best in town

Andras S — Google review
Family place, busy and loud, but the food is amazing. It is my favourite place when I'm in the city to have a great filling meal with a lot of variety. It is not cheap though, but the staff is great, they scratch some english which is great for foreigners. Saw bad reviews about their delivery, but it doesn't reflect on the local service. Definitely a place to have lunch or dine in if you're very hungry.
Don R — Google review
I came for the meat, but Jesus the grilled Pineapple had me at HELLO, bom deus.
Suga S — Google review
Really nice place, the food is excellent and the employees are very kind, they are always making sure you’re served. There is a wide range of food, including a lot of type of meat and different meat cuts. It’s a little bit expensive, I think it’s easy to find another cheaper place to go to eat with the same quality. But the other positive aspects make the money worth. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking for some relaxing place, it’s really noisy and everybody is going back and forth.

Best cost-benefit you find in the area. The dishes are really big (you can ask for one to 2 or 3 hungry people). Best cost-benefit dinner in Cidade Baixa. Just go for the Milanesa, already. Huge slab of breaded beef with rice, french fries, fried eggs and salad. It will feed two HUNGRY adults. Upgrade it with a side of black beans and extra egg and it will feed three. Try the bottled grape juice.

This place is a decades-old institution in Porto Alegre. Mostly because it is cheap and good. In other words, great value. The passion fruit juice was a bit too diluted, but you get about 1/2 a liter of fresh juice. Their X-burger was tasty and huge. You have to eat with a knife and fork. Service is prompt.

Beautiful service and amazing organic food. The wine, from Chile, was a great choice for our food. A family who have a great respect for the architecture, and have preserved this early twentieth century building to make you feel at home when you enter. Make it part of your visit when you come here.

Fast food restaurant
If you're on the hunt for a quintessential Brazilian experience, look no further than Cachorro Quente do R in the charming Independência neighborhood of Porto Alegre. This family-friendly spot is renowned for its classic hot dogs that come loaded with a variety of toppings to suit every palate. The legacy of these hearty treats dates back to German immigrants who introduced them to Brazil, and over time, they've evolved into a beloved staple of local cuisine.
If there is a better hot dog in this world I haven’t tried. Cachorro quente (hot dog) from Rosario it is a Porto Alegre classic. You haven’t visit the town if you don’t try. It is a kiosk in a corner of Rosario school near a square and they’ve been there forever. I’ve been eating the hot dog for the last 30 years or more. The taste it is incredible. I don’t know their secret but in 30 year’s nothing has changed. This time we ordered delivery and it is still the same. Amazing sauce with peas, the parmiggiano on top it is a must. And as I always said. I was never able to eat without making a mess. It is the way ir is. Love this. And everytime I come to Brazil and home this is one of my MUST haves

Nestled in the heart of the 4th District, Aora Cucina is a delightful Italian restaurant housed in a charming mansion dating back to the 1940s. This beautifully preserved space exudes an inviting ambiance reminiscent of traditional Italian cantinas. Guests can enjoy watching their meals being crafted in the open kitchen while savoring classic dishes like lasagna al bolognese and pasta with meatballs in rich tomato sauce.
Great Italian restaurant. Perfect for a romantic date. It is an oasis in the dark streets of 4⁰ distrito. The quality and freshness of the ingredients can be seen and tasted. I tried the lasagna and it was delicious. For sobremesa, I tried their pannacota. It was very tasty. The lights make it feel very intimate and cozy inside. They also have seating outdoors, for a more relaxed vibe. Reserve thru Whatsapp.

(Translated by Google) A restaurant with a charming atmosphere. Very beautiful and pleasant. I went with my girlfriend. The overall experience was not pleasant due to the position of our table. It was close to the entrance, with a high flow of staff and customers. I recommend reservations for the indoor area. We stayed outside and regretted it. Regarding the atmosphere, I felt unsafe in the area where the restaurant is located. It's practically the only business on the block (or street) open at night. There's no security at the door, unfortunately necessary for the area and because it serves a clearly upper-income clientele (I'll explain later). The service was good. The service was reasonably attentive, but we had to keep searching for the staff at times. In a restaurant of this caliber, this wasn't expected. Main and worst point: the food. We ordered gnocchi with pot roast and pasta with meatballs (linguini and polpetta). The meats served had a higher-than-expected fat content, giving the impression of low-end meat at times. It's not exactly a budget restaurant for low-end meat, nor is it a restaurant that emphasizes its adherence to Italian traditions. I've been cooking for years, frequenting many restaurants, and as a consumer, I noticed a lack of seasoning and poor quality ingredients. The restaurant didn't have guanciale. When I ordered carbonara, the server informed me about the lack of the ingredient and said it would be served with bacon, keeping the price the same. So I chose linguini with meatballs. I understand the lack of the ingredient, but we specifically chose the restaurant because it uses ingredients from the original recipes, which are listed on the menu. The lack of this ingredient ruined our expectations. The experience with the dishes wasn't the best we've ever had, so we ordered Tiramisu for dessert. It came with SO MUCH cocoa powder on top, it was difficult to swallow. It felt like I'd put a spoonful of flour in my mouth because of all the cocoa powder! By the end of the dessert, it was frozen solid. Overall: pleasant atmosphere, okay service, and below-par food for a restaurant with an average price of 90-100 reais per dish. We've had much better pasta dishes with meat, even in the food court. We paid the bill with service. We probably won't be back. I hope you have a good experience and that the restaurant improves on the points I mentioned. A falta desse ingrediente quebrou a expectativa.

(Translated by Google) I chose Ofertório to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday because the times I had been there had been great, and he and his guests had never heard of the place. (Some were from Natal/RN). Expectations were exceeded! The service was brilliant from start to finish, from the host, the girl at the bar, the owner, who was always friendly and helpful, and so on! Wonderful service from everyone! We chose different dishes and they were all perfectly seasoned, delicious and beautiful! The drinks were well presented. We brought a cake to sing happy birthday and share with our guests, but if we hadn't, there would have been a "fake cake" with a candle and everything. And it was a beautiful cake, you know? The atmosphere is so beautiful, with lots of art on the walls, very cozy. And everything is very CLEAN, which for me, who spent years as a restaurant manager, makes all the difference. The kombi ride was an experience that elevated our evening to the next level! We took pictures, laughed a lot, sang, and of course, the driver (I don't know his name, I think he's the owner of Bisou, maybe?) was so nice! There's a security guard at the door, he's polite. I noticed that when we went to take pictures in the van, he crossed the street and kept an eye on us. Which shows how committed he is to the safety of his customers. Last but not least, the music! The singer, who plays the guitar and voice, in addition to making great choices in his repertoire, got out and sang Happy Birthday with us, super sweet and funny! I couldn't find his name on Instagram, so here's my thanks to him, who made our little celebration so much fun! Thank you all, we'll be back soon. P.S: Congratulations to the kitchen team, the flavor and presentation were 10 out of 10. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Beijos, Bruna Pedroso

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful view of Guaíba, as in all restaurants in that part of Cais Embarcadero, the service was initially a little confusing as it took them a while to locate our reservation and show us to a table. The food was very tasty, the burgers were excellent and the brisket fries were great. The drinks left something to be desired, which is very strange, as it should have been one of the strong points of the place, but they were either too sweet or classic (cosmopolitan and negroni) with the wrong proportions. The bathroom was terrible, there is no point in having to take the command to open the door while the other people at the table were unable to place orders, in addition to it being totally unhygienic to take something to the bathroom that you need to leave on the table that is eating. Anyway, the restaurant is beautiful for the view, but if it weren't for that I don't think I would go back.

(Translated by Google) The atmosphere is very beautiful, great for a happy hour at the end of the day. I ended up not eating any food, but the drinks were great. The service was also impeccable, congratulations to the staff. The only negative point was the bathroom, it's small and cramped, and the floor was completely wet 🫠 (Original) O ambiente é muito bonito, ótimo para um happy ao final do dia.

Bar
Pub
Boteco Natalício is a traditional local bar with a quirky open-air setting spread over two levels. The place is adorned with amusing and philosophical ruminations from comedians and local patrons. It offers regional delicacies such as honey-smoked pork ribs and crunchy shrimp sandwiches with catupiry cheese, along with shepherd's pie and feijoada. Customers can enjoy the local chope (draught beer) while soaking in the distinctive Latin atmosphere.

(Translated by Google) Great atmosphere, creamy Itaipava beer and very tasty snacks.

(Translated by Google) The meals are great, with samba even better. The only crucial point is having signed a partnership with just one beer brand and I don't like anything that comes down my throat. There should be options such as Original, Bohemia, Bud, among others.

(Translated by Google) Considering the age of the establishment, I imagine it must have been charming before the botched renovation. Only drink Itaipava and for those who like to enjoy the Itaipava drink, don't go down. It doesn't have a variety of beers as reported in one of the reviews, but rather a small list of German beers, without any local ones. I don't recommend it for beer lovers and those who are against renovations that destroy the place.

(Translated by Google) The service is quick, especially when it comes to serving the draft beer. Unfortunately, the waiters end up snatching the glass from your table and replacing it with a full one before you've even finished. Water bread sandwiches, chicken drumstick with chickpea pepper and bean broth are my recommendations.

(Translated by Google) Small but very pleasant atmosphere. Very helpful waiters, a sea of signs, pictures and phrases fill every inch of the walls, which makes us lose track of the time! Best of all: TOP food at a very affordable cost.

If you're a coffee enthusiast looking for a top-notch coffee experience in Porto Alegre, William & Sons Coffee Co. is the place to be. This cozy coffee shop, housed in a converted home, offers meticulous attention to detail in their brewing process and friendly service. Visitors can also purchase their high-quality coffee and chocolate bars to enjoy at home. The establishment is highly praised for its exceptional espresso and delectable cheese bread, making it a favorite spot among locals and visitors alike.
One of the best espresso I have ever had. Great attention to detail (amount of coffee is weighted before brewing). Friendly service. Nice space, but a bit on the small side. It's a house converted to a coffee shop. One of two sites of the tiny chain. You can buy their coffee or chocolate bars at the shop.
