2-digit plus 2-digit Worksheets

First Grade worksheets to help students learn how to add a 2-digit number to a 2-digit number. No regrouping or carrying is required. Students can start with strategies like counting fingers, counting on or number bonds. They may also write the problems in a vertical form. With practice, they may be able to do the sums in their heads.

How to add 2-digit numbers with no regrouping:

1. Line Up the Numbers:
   Write the numbers vertically, aligning their place values (tens and ones).
   Tens digits should be above each other, and ones digits should be above each other.
   
2. Add the Ones Place:
   Start by adding the digits in the ones place.
   Write the sum of the ones digits below the ones place column.
   
3. Add the Tens Place:
   Move to the tens place and add those digits together.
   Write the sum of the tens digits below the tens place column.
   
4. Read the Answer:
   The final number you’ve written is the sum of the two-digit numbers.
   

Key Points:

• No regrouping means the sum of the digits in the ones place stays below 10.
• If the sum of the digits in a place value is 10 or more, you’ll need to regroup (carry over).
• Practice with different examples to solidify understanding.
