I was able to get the Jekyll setup working which helped a lot for testing this. Here's the side nav I was talking about:
The two problems are that, 1) this requires a bit of CSS and JavaScript to get working (see the top and bottom of this file), and 2) the nav isn't fixed like it is on http://nativescript.github.io/quick-start/. I can make it work, but it gets really hacky as I basically have to reimplement the site's layout for this page.
The being said, other than those two things I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to port this content and get everything working. Let me know what you think.
