We talk a lot about #decarbonizing buildings. But here’s the reality: 50% of global leaders say they don’t have the data to make it happen. Decisions need insights. Without #data, we’re guessing – and half the industry still is. What’s your take: Where should smart building tech focus first?

Most labs are designed with guesswork 🧪 Project PEARL changed that by testing three leading ventilation systems under identical, controlled conditions in our Pilot Lab in Zug. We measured nine performance factors — from particle removal speed to user comfort to ventilation efficiency — using heat loads, smart sensors, aerosol recovery tests, and laser visualization. The findings were significant. One system achieved 31% superior local air change rates despite lower airflow speeds, proving that safety doesn't require excessive air volume. It also maintained user comfort under extreme internal loads of up to 300 W/m² — far beyond the 180 W/m² threshold where most systems struggle. And in critical safety scenarios, particle removal was 29% faster near operating fume hoods. But the real breakthrough came next: we built a #DigitalTwin of the entire test environment. When we compared simulation results to actual data, the accuracy was remarkable.This means teams can now model thermal dynamics, assess risks, and optimize designs digitally — before spending on construction. Project PEARL proves that combining real-world testing with #DigitalSimulation creates safer, more efficient, and more #Sustainable lab environments. Together with DEUS Automation a.s., we completed a full modernization of the 42-layer kinetic sculpture by Czech artist David Černý – optimizing motion, cutting energy use, and extending its lifespan. In 6 months we: - Serviced all motors for long-term reliability - Upgraded rotation components to lower energy consumption - Enabled remote support with our modern control systems - Refurbished and reused nearly all original parts Thanks to this meticulous restoration, Kafka’s head will keep turning for at least another 20 years, now more efficient, reliable, and #sustainable than ever. 🌱
