What techniques do you employ to reduce the defects that will appear in the first delivered version?

I mean, the initial version will definitely will have some bugs. Be it limited exposure to end users, be it rush, you name it. How do you deal with this?

Interesting approach, how do you deal with pressing deadlines? And how do you reasonate it to non-technical stakeholders eg project managers?
