Our crews are out in full force across the state, including here in Oneida County, where today’s storm is keeping everyone busy. When there’s more than one lane to clear, you’ll often see our plows working in echelon formation - several trucks side-by-side pushing snow across all lanes at once. It’s the fastest and most effective way to get the entire roadway cleared and safe for travel. These ride-along videos give you a front-row seat to the incredible teamwork happening out there. We’re working hard to keep you safe. Thanks for helping keep our crews safe too. 🙏Thanks to Jim Baker, HWM1, for allowing us to ride with him today!

Crews are out across New York today, including this plow working hard along Route 147 in Galway, pushing back the snow and keeping the roadways safe as this storm stretches across much of the state. Even with our plows rolling, the snow is coming down fast and roads can still be slick. Please drive for the conditions, slow down, give our crews plenty of room, and arrive safely. We’re out here doing our part. Thank you for doing yours.

❄️ Keeping New York moving safely takes more than clearing snow. It also means taking care of the equipment that works around the clock. After a storm, our plows head back to places like this Fredonia shop in Chautauqua County for a full wash. Removing salt, slush, and packed-in snow from those tough-to-reach areas helps prevent corrosion, protects important components, and keeps each truck ready for the next round of winter weather. And whether a plow is sparkling clean or covered in slush - #DontCrowdThePlow

Ever sit at a red light and think, “How does all of this actually work?” Every green-to-yellow-to-red cycle has a whole team behind it, and this week on the DOT POD, we’re taking you inside that world. Josh and Anya visit NYSDOT’s Mohawk Valley Signal Shop and talk with Jess Muller & Don Paciello about the traffic signals that keep intersections moving. 🎧 Listen now - https://bit.ly/48Q74Ia

Earlier today, NYSDOT Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez joined NYSDEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton in Warren County to spotlight a mission we take seriously across New York State: reducing rock salt use while keeping travelers safe. Our crews are among the finest snow-fighting teams in the nation, and part of what makes them exceptional is their commitment to protecting both public safety and our environment. For more than a decade, NYSDOT has been working to minimize road salt use through smarter technology, precision application, and continuous training. The results are real, and now it’s time to expand that success even further. We encourage municipalities, businesses, and homeowners to join us in practicing careful, thoughtful salt management this winter. Small changes add up, and a less salty season means a greener and healthier future for communities across the state. More Here: https://bit.ly/48Fypwx

We THANK our crews that are out across the state plowing during every snowstorm. But what you don’t always see is the tremendous amount of work happening behind the scenes to make that possible. Join us in thanking the many teams whose efforts keep New York moving all winter long. To the mechanics and maintenance crews who keep our equipment in top shape with routine service and fast, critical repairs - THANK YOU. To the trainers who prepare our operators to safely handle the toughest winter conditions - THANK YOU. And to all the employees who support these operations, coordinate logistics, manage supplies, fuel fleets, and keep communication flowing - THANK YOU. Winter operations are a true team effort, and every safe mile driven on New York roads is the result of your dedication. We appreciate you.

We know we share a lot of snowstorm footage. It helps show what our crews are up against and how they keep New York moving when conditions get tough. But every now and then, a plow cam delivers a moment like this from earlier this afternoon. Sunshine over Lowville and a great stretch of road that reminds us why we love what we do. Snow or sunshine, NYSDOT crews are out there for you.
