Great to be back in Detroit meeting the team at DTE Energy to talk about the convergence between power + high performance compute. Detroit is a wonderful city that has undergone an incredible turnaround over the last decade. It is a completely different downtown to when I first came here in 2016. Great to have plenty of snow to bring some festive cheer as well. 🎄

Georgia Power Company’s $15B regulatory showdown is a microcosm of America’s AI-driven power build-out. Georgia Power is asking regulators to approve $15B+ in new generation and grid capacity a 50% expansion in just six years to keep up with unprecedented data center load. 80% of the incremental capacity is for hyperscalers. Georgia’s case is now the template being watched by: ▪️ Every major U.S. Investor Owned Utility confronting similar load curves. ▪️ Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Google negotiating for capacity they need years before it exists ▪️ State regulators recalibrating how cost recovery works in the AI age. ▪️ Grid planners balancing political sentiment against industrial-scale compute demand. This is the new reality: AI infrastructure now shapes utility capex cycles, regulatory decisions, economic development, and political outcomes. And the states that solve power availability, cost containment, and equitable rate design will own the next decade of digital industrialization. Futura Energy Group support utilities, developers, and EPCs in delivering this build-out mobilizing construction, commissioning, power systems, grid integration and leadership teams so projects can move at the velocity this market demands. If states don’t solve power availability, hyperscalers will decide where the next economy gets built.

Another massive NextEra Energy, Inc. announcement, this time with ExxonMobil!!! NextEra and ExxonMobil plan to build a 1.2 GW natural-gas-fired power plant to supply electricity to US data centers. The plant will include carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) technology, and the site is adjacent to Exxon’s existing CO₂ pipeline infrastructure in the Southeastern US. Other key points: • The companies have acquired 2,500 acres for the facility. • They will begin marketing the site to a hyperscale data center developer in Q1 2026. • The project aligns with NextEra’s plan to build up to 15 GW of new capacity dedicated to data center growth by 2035. • NextEra is acquiring Symmetry Energy Solutions to strengthen natural gas supply. The acquisition is expected to close in Q1 2026. • NextEra and Basin Electric Power Cooperative are advancing a separate 1.45 GW natural gas generation project in North Dakota to support a multi gigawatt data center campus. “Based on our work with hyperscalers to date, we think this is going to turn out to be an attractive site, and there's more to come with ExxonMobil if we're able to prove out demand at this site,” NextEra CEO John Ketchum "NextEra Energy Resources is excited to collaborate with Basin Electric and its cooperative members to deliver a cost-effective American energy solution that supports innovation and economic growth," said NextEra Energy Resources president and CEO Brian Bolster. Meta signs 2.5GW of clean energy contracts with NextEra Energy, Inc. This isn’t a procurement story. It’s an energy-security play shaping where hyperscale AI will be built, powered, and expanded through 2028. Meta, NextEra, PNM, and regional grid operators are effectively rewriting how large-scale AI loads are supported across ERCOT, SPP, MISO, and the Southwest. Key Facts & Figures ▪️ 2.5GW total: 11 PPAs + 2 ESAs spanning 3 major US grid regions ▪️ 2.1GW solar across ERCOT, SPP, MISO with NextEra Energy Resources ▪️ 358MW New Mexico package (190MW solar + 168MW battery) tied to PNM Rate 36B ▪️ Up to 2,440 construction jobs created through 2028 ▪️ Builds on 500MW+ of existing Meta–NextEra clean-energy partnerships This is the blueprint: lock in regional clean-power portfolios now, or risk being capacity-constrained later. Futura Energy Group, we support hyperscalers, developers, and utilities by mobilizing the talent that turns these commitments into reality from high-voltage and substation teams to commissioning, grid-integration specialists, and mission-critical construction leadership. When the MWs must materialize, we deliver the workforce that keeps timelines and megaprojects on track.

Building teams in Infrastructure | AI | Energy | Power

Are leadership teams and HR leaders frozen on hiring right now? Yesterday morning, I spoke with a senior executive at one of the largest data center operators in the world. He has visibility across multiple hyperscale developers, and the concern is the same everywhere: companies are struggling to secure enough talent to meet the buildout ahead. Why? Because the profile required to build modern data centers has evolved faster than most organizations have adapted. As a result, many companies either: a) Lack the internal expertise to execute their pipeline, or b) Don’t fully understand the roles and technical depth they now need. And yet many teams remain stuck. Talking about the challenge instead of moving on it. The truth: there is not actually a lack of talent available and willing to work for these organizations. The real issue is decision velocity. So, what needs to change? • Faster hiring lanes. You cannot run hyperscale builds on 60–90 day HR cycles. • Operator-led evaluation. Technical leaders make better hiring decisions than layered committees. • Clear value propositions. Top candidates have options; if you can’t articulate why your project matters, they move on. • Modern compensation and mobility. High-impact operators expect growth, upside, and responsibility. • Specialist partners. The strongest companies work with firms that deeply understand the data center and AI-infrastructure ecosystem. If the industry wants to keep pace with demand, hiring needs the same urgency as construction and power planning. Interested in finding out more? Drop me a note if you want to know how to put together a straightforward plan to secure top talent.

NextEra Energy, Inc. signs 2.5 GW of clean energy contracts with Meta across the US.... The 2.5 GW is made up of 11 Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and 2 Energy Storage Agreements (ESAs) and will be spread across nine solar PPAs across the markets of ERCOT, the Southwest Power Pool and the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), totalling 2.1 GW. Other key points - New Mexico will add 190 MW of solar and 168 MW of battery storage - All projects are scheduled to come online between 2026 and 2028 - Up to 2,440 construction jobs will be created - The agreements support massive growth in power demand from AI and data center expansion "We are proud to continue our collaboration with NextEra Energy Resources in advancing energy infrastructure and storage solutions. The integration of 2.1GW across ERCOT, SPP, and MISO, along with more than 350MW from the three-way collaboration with PNM in New Mexico, to support our data center operations, demonstrates how industry cooperation can drive technological progress and strengthen America's energy infrastructure," said Urvi Parekh, head of energy at Meta. “We are incredibly excited to grow our collaboration with Meta, one of America's iconic companies. These agreements demonstrate our continued commitment to bring energy solutions to help grow the American economy, drive innovation, and ensure the US wins the AI race," Brian Bolster, president and CEO of NextEra Energy Resources, said. Our client, a private equity firm investing in the power and utility value chain, is looking for an exceptional Operating Advisor to support M&A activity across the United States. The focus is on companies that serve regulated utilities, including EPC firms, design-build contractors, engineering groups, electrical service providers, and manufacturers of utility-grade systems and components. They are building platforms with real operational depth. The right advisor will bring hands-on experience leading or advising businesses that sell into regulated utilities. You will work directly with the investment team to assess opportunities, pressure test growth plans, and drive post-close value creation. We are looking for a candidate with deep sector knowledge, a strong national network, and credibility with utility clients, suppliers, and OEMs. This is a high-impact advisory role for someone who understands how the power sector really works and can spot winners before the market does. This is not a full-time role. It is a strategic seat with influence, access, and upside. If you or someone in your network has built in this space and wants to help shape the next generation of power platforms, reach out directly to me. Tom
