DataWorks:Billing for shared resource groups for scheduling

Last Updated:Sep 03, 2025

DataWorks provides shared resource groups for scheduling to run tasks. These resource groups are billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. This topic describes the billing details for shared resource groups for scheduling.

Background information

  • Introduction

Shared resource groups for scheduling are public resource groups that DataWorks provides. They are billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. All DataWorks users on Alibaba Cloud share these resources. During peak hours, resource competition may occur. This competition can prevent tasks from being scheduled and run on time. To guarantee task execution, we recommend that you use an exclusive resource group for scheduling. For more information, see Billing for exclusive resource groups for scheduling.

  • Billing principles

When hourly and minute-level tasks are scheduled, multiple instances are generated each day. You are charged based on the number of instances that are generated and run successfully. To estimate the number of instances that a workspace will generate, you can go to Operation Center > Auto Triggered Task O&M > Recurring Instance. On the Instance View tab, filter by Shared Resource Group For Scheduling and refer to the instance list.

Billing scope

The billable item for shared resource groups for scheduling is the task instance. DataWorks charges for a task instance if it meets the following conditions:

  • Submitted to the scheduling system: All types of instances that are generated by nodes and submitted to the scheduling system are billable. This includes recurring instances, one-time instances, test instances, and data backfill instances. Instances that are generated by zero load nodes are excluded.

  • Run successfully: Only instances that run successfully in Operation Center > Task O&M are billed. Instances that are generated but have not run, are frozen, or are dry-run instances are not billed.

Note
  • If a task runs on an exclusive resource group for scheduling, its cost is included in the fees for the exclusive resource group and is not billed as part of the fees for the shared resource group for scheduling. For more information, see Billing rules.

  • If the number of daily instances exceeds 120,000, the upper limit is reached. This can prevent instances from being scheduled and run properly. If your business requires a higher limit, submit a ticket for assistance.

Billing standards

  • Billing cycle: Daily.

  • Billing granularity: Number of successful instances per day.

  • Free quota: DataWorks provides a free quota of 10 successful instances per day.

This billable item is charged daily based on a tiered pricing model. The price is determined by the tier that corresponds to the total number of successful instances that are run per day. The following table describes the billing standards.

Billing details

At 00:00 each day, the billing system calculates the number of instances that ran successfully on the previous calendar day. A fee is then charged based on the corresponding pricing tier. You are charged based on a single pricing tier. Fees from different tiers are not cumulative.

For example, if a user's DataWorks workspace is in the China (Shanghai) region and runs 502 successful instances on April 30, 2019, a fee of USD 9.29 is charged after 00:00 on May 1, 2019.

Overdue payments

If your account has an overdue payment, your service is extended for 360 hours. Notifications are sent at the 192nd, 288th, and 336th hour after the payment becomes overdue to remind you to renew the service:

  • If the payment is overdue for more than 360 hours, the service is suspended. At this point, you cannot start new instances. However, instances that are already running can continue to run until they are complete.

  • If you add funds to your account within 360 hours after the payment becomes overdue, the service is not suspended.

  • If you clear the overdue payment but your account has an overdue payment again, the 360-hour extension is reset. The service is suspended 360 hours after the new overdue payment occurs.

FAQ

Q: How is the fee for a single instance calculated?

A: Shared resource groups for scheduling use a pay-as-you-go billing method. You are charged a daily fee based on the pricing tier that corresponds to the total number of successful instances that are run per day. You cannot calculate the fee for a single instance. Therefore, you cannot query bills by instance. For more information about the pricing tiers and prices, see Billing standards.
