I frequently copy links from web pages in Chrome to paste into emails (e.g. gmail.com in Chrome) I’m composing on Windows 11 (24H2 Pro). After pasting, I often need to manually update the email typeface to overwrite the font style of the link I just inserted.

How can I do the following when copy-pasting text:

  1. Clear the style from the current clipboard
  2. Restore the link so that it keeps the hyperlink but removes any other font formatting
  3. Paste the cleaned clipboard

How can I achieve this on Windows 11 without manually adjusting the formatting afterward?

Example:

What I currently have after pasting:

What I want:

enter image description here

i.e. just keep the links and throw away any other formatting.

  • Have you tried an AHK or other macro script tools or methods for this? Formatting and the hyperlinks are both metadata attached to the text, and so removing formatting is going to remove the link, in its default state. Also, please specify the applications you are pasting TO and if there are differences. You reference a website ("gmail.com") but then which browser? Commented yesterday
  • @music2myear thanks, I haven't tried an AHK or other macro script tools or methods for this yet. Sounds good I've edited the question to mention the applications I use. Commented yesterday

For me, the easiest is to use an app such as LibreOffice Writer (though I presume MS Word can do the same):

  1. In browser, select the area, or press CtrlA to select everything.

  2. Press CtrlC to copy to clipboard.

    Page as copied

  3. In word processor, press CtrlV to paste as formatted.

  4. In Style toolbar, select Clear formatting.

    Remove Format
