I been trying to use mod_proxy with httpd and tomcat...

I have on VirtualBox running Scientific Linux which has httpd and tomcat 6 on it.. I made two nodes of tomcat6.

I followed this guide like 10 times and still cant get the 2nd node of tomcat working..

  • are you able to access node2:8109 ?, if not, check your firewall. or try to take out node1 config see if it's working or not. Commented Dec 4, 2012 at 14:34

  • check if node2 listen to the port 8109 (netstat -an|grep 8109), if it's listened, try to (telnet localhost 8109), if it's not connected, check your firewall setting Commented Dec 4, 2012 at 15:00

Your second server.xml has its redirectPort connector bound to the same port as the first tomcat instance 8443. Check your second tomcat's: ...logs/catalina.out to see if this has prevented it from starting, if it has you alter the port in the second instance to a different value and restart the instance. You might also wish to consider temporarily enabling a HTTP, port 8080 connector in the second instance, to provide a quick mechanism to test the app is running as expected.

  • if I try to use wget 127.0.0.1:8080/examples it works if I do a wget 127.0.0.1/examples I get a 503 Commented Dec 4, 2012 at 16:05
  • I deleted the dir with node2 and copy node1 over and started it... everything worked great until I stop it and changed the port from 8009 to 8109 or 8209 once I change the port it stops working.. I can telnet to the new port but it done work from httd. Commented Dec 4, 2012 at 16:14
  • Are there any errors in the catalina.out? Are you running on a hardened box e.g. have SElinux enabled? Can you ping the ajp port? Commented Dec 4, 2012 at 16:25
  • nothing in catalina.out, I did not ping it but I telnet to the port and its ok... its on SElinux 32bit and 64bit... Commented Dec 4, 2012 at 17:00

no it was a issue with SELinux... I had to do a setenforce 0.
