I need to install .NET 4.8 on Windows Server 2016 Core that currently has .NET 4.7 installed. In feature installation the .NET 4.7 Framework is already selected.

The web installer and with offline installer crash. In the application event I see the error ""

The get-windowsfeauture cmdlet shows the framework is already turned on (the system is in italian locale) as you can see.

I redownloaded the installer, but with same results. I considered disabling and then installing .NET 4.8, but I read in Microsoft learn that is not necessary to uninstall previous version in order to update.

Anyone have had the same problem? Thanks in advance.

system requirement for the ver 4.8 Server 2016 is supported

Not that release of Windows Server 2016. All of the semi annual channel releases of Windows Server are end of life and no longer supported. Observe that your system hasn't been updated in five years. That's bad.

If you want to use a release that is updated more frequently, the annual channel is the designated replacement. However, you will be in the same situation after 18 months if you don't upgrade, which is the same cadence as the desktop.

You are probably better off staying with the regular, traditional server channel, and using Server Core.

Additionally, all releases of Windows Server 2016 will be end of life in less than two years. Instead of upgrading a platform that is a dead end, consider a more recent edition of Windows Server.
