I am new to OpenStack. I am migrating a server from OpenStack to VMware. I created an image/snapshot with:

openstack server image create --name Odoo_v12_ubuntu_v18Snapshot Odoo_v12_ubuntu_v18

then by listing the image followed by:

openstack image save --file snapshot.raw 4c7d3419-eb9e-4478-8621-19274bda4bd4

Results in the following in the logs:

2025-02-12 11:29:55.571 17478 INFO eventlet.wsgi.server [req-01e87185-938a-4669-adaa-a6e42ce5dcee 00b015e30c0a469bb73e26aaa2317b78 9fa635a08a6241efb01722aef0dd716a - - -] 192.168.151.60,192.168.151.51 - - [12/Feb/2025 11:29:55] "DELETE /v1/images/1d632087-f876-4700-aec5-4d874a31cfe7 HTTP/1.1" 200 200 0.886090

What is causing the image to be deleted?

  • Those are two different image IDs, are you sure those are correct? You save 4c7d3419-eb9e-4478-8621-19274bda4bd4, but the log referes to 1d632087-f876-4700-aec5-4d874a31cfe7. Commented Feb 15 at 12:52
  • sorry my mistake. This should be the correct entry: 2025-02-12 11:19:58.917 17465 INFO eventlet.wsgi.server [req-cc73e15a-ea04-47a9-bec1-dad496eb9a03 00b015e30c0a469bb73e26aaa2317b78 9fa635a08a6241efb01722aef0dd716a - - -] 192.168.151.50,192.168.151.51 - - [12/Feb/2025 11:19:58] "DELETE /v1/images/4c7d3419-eb9e-4478-8621-19274bda4bd4 HTTP/1.1" 200 200 0.661022 [root@controller01 ~]# Commented Feb 16 at 14:33
  • I can't reproduce this, works fine for me. Can you add more details about your setup? Especially which version of OpenStack you're running and which storage backends you use. I use exclusively RBD (Ceph) for all services (Cinder, Glance, Nova). Commented Feb 17 at 9:10
  • openstack is new for me, I´ve just landed last week on it. [root@controller01 ~]# openstack --version /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/requests/__init__.py:83: RequestsDependencyWarning: Old version of cryptography ([1, 2, 1]) may cause slowdown. warnings.warn(warning, RequestsDependencyWarning) openstack 2.3.0 ` Commented Feb 18 at 15:33
