I installed Samba 4 as a domain controller + fileserver. I provided access to folders via Samba. Now when I try to change permissions on folders and files from Windows Explorer, I need to find a user to add to the list. But the system cannot find the user for a reason unknown to me. I tried "EXAMPLE\user1", "EXAMPLE.COM\user1", "[email protected]" - it still doesn't search. If I click the Advanced button in the object selection window (to set permissions on the Security tab in the file properties), Windows will report “The server is down.”. However, the list of users and their permissions (previously set directly on the server) is perfectly displayed, indicating the domain and names. What to do?

You have to join machine(s) to the domain and reboot. Only machines joined to the domain are enabled to use domain resources as outlined here: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Windows_Client_or_Server_to_a_Domain
