As far as I know it seems that quantum modular forms lack a clean operator-theoretic foundation parallel to that of classical and Maass forms. The spectral theory of automorphic Laplacians and the Selberg trace formula reveal really amazing connections between modularity and heat traces, but to my knowledge there has been no (real-variable) framework capturing a quantum modularity directly at the level of traces. Does anyone know?
