In short, fae16fc breaks compilations targeting Android that don't use lld. The change landed just before the release branch point, which means downstreams don't have a whole lot of advance notice.

I don't feel qualified to assess whether this is OK within the project's general expectations of compatibility, but maybe others would like to weigh in, so I'm filing this as a release blocker for visibility.
