Summary

  • Upgraded project from KiCad 4/5 to KiCad 7 format
  • Fixed footprint library references to use standard KiCad components instead of custom ones
  • Generated new schematic and PCB PDFs
  • Reduced ERC violations from 84 to 48

Background

Got this board in the pre-order back in the day - it was always good! After 10+ years, figured it deserved a modern KiCad upgrade.

I upgraded it in case some student/learner wants to learn from this schematic - at least the new KiCad won't show them ?? in every component. I used the standard KiCad components instead of custom ones where possible.

Test plan

  • Project opens cleanly in KiCad 7+
  • All footprint libraries resolve correctly using standard KiCad libraries
  • Schematic and PCB PDFs generate successfully
  • ERC violations reduced significantly (remaining ones are intentional design features)
