astral-sh/uv#7848 explicitly requests Xft, and I suspect that astral-sh/uv#14042 is also caused by lack of Xft.

I need to remind myself what the modern Linux font-rendering stack is and how much applies to the less-than-modern Tk and X11. Do we need fontconfig? freetype? harfbuzz? Do we need to ship fonts ourselves?
