I'm configuring a Jenkins instance installed as a windows service. In order to download the source code, I would like to use the subversion plugin, but I'm getting an authentication error when I add the credentials (user name/password). The same user can get the code using svn command line.

The system configuration:

  • Windows 2008 R2 64
  • Jenkins 1.609
  • Vusual SVN, configured to authenticate with active directory

  • Can you open svn.domain/svn/URL in IE and try to authenticate using AD\jenkins & password. What's the result? Commented Apr 14, 2015 at 12:28

  • The best way to troubleshoot this is to log on to your server, navigate to the job workspace, and try the svn commands manually. You might want to review/reset the svn auth cache also possibly. Commented Apr 14, 2015 at 17:55
  • @PatriceM. I can checkout svn repositories using PsExec. But I would like to avoid this since it exposes the user password. Besides of that, how can I review/reset the svn auth cache? Keep in mind that jenkins is running as a windows service, what means that it is being ran as the system user, which is not the same user I'm using to authenticate. Commented Apr 14, 2015 at 18:32

Did you configure a Jenkins "credentials" entry for the SVN account, and used it in the "checkout" step (or pipeline command)?

If you already did:

  • Make sure the credentials are correct and up-to-date. In an AD environment, use the "DOMAIN\USERNAME" format for user names.
  • Try to reset the account's password - it may contain special characters that are not very friendly with the SVN plugin.
  • Make sure the service account being used by Jenkins is not limited for network access (eg. the "Local Service" account is limited). To troubleshoot such an issue, I would temporary configure Jenkins to run with the same user account that succeeds with the SVN command and restart the Jenkins service.
