GitHub to replace 'master' with 'main' starting next month
All new Git repositories on GitHub will be named "main" instead of "master" starting October 1, 2020.

The word "master" can have some connotations with slavery, so there's been a push recently to change the branch to be called "main".
Existing repos will be the same. All new repos created after a set date will change on GitHub.
