The Road To Emotional AI - Why I’m Studying ROS 2 and Python While Building My Own Robots

🧠 Who I Am
My name is Marvin Hermann, I’m a Computer Science student at KIT, one of Germany’s top research universities.
But I’m not “just” a student. I’m training to become a scientist in the field of Emotional Artificial Intelligence, not only to study intelligence, but to create it.

💡 What I’m Trying to Achieve
My vision is to help build intelligent systems that aren't just rational, but emotional, empathetic, and alive in the ways we are.
I want to contribute to research that makes emotional cognition, empathic behavior, and even symbolic inner life possible in AI.

If that sounds like science fiction: good. That's exactly the kind of future I'm working for.

🛠️ Why ROS 2 and Python?
To create intelligent machines that can feel and respond emotionally, you have to understand how they perceive, move, and interact with the world.
That’s why I’m studying ROS 2, the standard operating system for robots, and building my own robotic software stacks, Sensors, actuators and movement patterns, from the ground up.

Python is my weapon of choice, because it’s the backbone of both modern robotics and machine learning.

📚 What You’ll Find on This Page
This space is not a portfolio. It’s a lab notebook, a battle log, and a scientific diary.
It documents how I’m learning, what I’m building, and how I structure my knowledge as I grow.

You'll find:

🧭 Masterposts:
Permanent knowledge bases on Python, ROS 2, ML and more. Continuously updated.

📅 Weekly Logs:
Regular entries on what I learned, built, or struggled with, in full transparency.

🤖 Projects:
From experimental sensor nodes to full robotic behaviors, every project gets its own devlog & conclusion.

🧬 Why I’m Sharing This Publicly
Because real science is messy. And I believe in open learning and shared progress.
I also believe the next generation of researchers students, and builders just like myself, will need places like this to see the process, not just the results.

If you're a CS student, robotics nerd, AI dreamer, or future researcher, I hope this place will give you something valuable.

Let’s build something that feels.
