Founded in 2015, Kudu Network has launched step-counting functional game Wokamon and focus-enhancing game Focus Quest, the latter of which was selected for Google Play's Best App of 2021 list.

From Sports Gamification to Specialization in Functional Games
朱文杰早期创业项目是运动游戏化App,但未成功。2015年成立酷都网络后,转向开发运动类游戏产品。"当时还没有功能游戏的概念,我们是半被动选择了这个赛道。"朱文杰表示。
Zhu Wenjie's early startup was a sports gamification app, which didn't succeed. After founding Kudu Network in 2015, he shifted to developing sports-themed games. "At that time, the concept of functional games didn't exist yet. We semi-passively chose this track," Zhu said.
早期产品主要是计步类"走路游戏",但在ASO(应用商店优化)竞争中面临耐克、悦跑圈、咕咚等强大对手,经营困难。近年公司转向专注游戏开发,竞争减少,获得更大发展空间。
Early products were mainly step-counting "walking games," but faced fierce ASO (App Store Optimization) competition from Nike, Joyrun, and Codoon, leading to operational difficulties. Recently, the company shifted to focus-enhancing games, reducing competition and gaining more development space.

加入谷歌出海创业加速器后,酷都网络获得了谷歌各部门的对接支持和创业经验咨询。"我们非常看重Google Play的应用生态,AdMob是主要变现手段,Google Ads帮助付费推广。"朱文杰强调。
After joining the Google Going Global Startup Accelerator, Kudu Network received cross-departmental support and entrepreneurial consulting from Google. "We highly value the Google Play ecosystem. AdMob is our main monetization channel, while Google Ads assists in paid promotions," Zhu emphasized.
功能游戏的商业化挑战与未来趋势
Commercialization Challenges and Future Trends of Functional Games
功能游戏的核心是满足功能性需求,"哪怕游戏做的差一点,只要能满足用户功能需求,就是比较好的功能游戏。"朱文杰指出。但商业化是最大挑战,"养活两人团队可行,但50人团队就是很大挑战。"
The core of functional games is meeting user needs. "Even if the game quality is average, as long as it fulfills functional requirements, it's a good functional game," Zhu noted. However, commercialization remains the biggest challenge. "Supporting a two-person team is feasible, but a 50-person team presents significant challenges."
朱文杰预测未来会有更多功能被游戏化:1)用户需求增长推动产品类型扩展;2)手机依赖加重和新载体(如智能眼镜)出现将激发新需求。
Zhu predicts more functions will be gamified: 1) Growing user demand drives product diversification; 2) Increased smartphone dependency and new platforms (e.g., smart glasses) will stimulate new needs.
