In 1996, Lin Wensheng's father had been in the eel business for five years, with the price of a ton of eel reaching 180,000 yuan and the profit margin as high as 50%. "We country folks had never seen so much money. In those days, being a 'ten-thousand-yuan household' was already remarkable," Lin recalls.

2001年,日本以药残超标为由限制中国鳗鱼进口,导致行业陷入低谷。林文生被迫离开家乡前往新加坡谋生。"这条鱼亏得要命,没活路了,我就跑了。"
In 2001, Japan restricted the import of Chinese eels due to excessive drug residues, plunging the industry into a downturn. Lin was forced to leave his hometown for Singapore to make a living. "The eel business was losing money terribly. There was no way out, so I ran away."

疫情后,鳗鱼出口受阻,国内销量大增。据确安养鳗场负责人倪朝捷介绍,国内已成为福清鳗鱼的主要市场,与欧洲、日本形成三足鼎立之势。
After the pandemic, eel exports were blocked, and domestic sales increased significantly. According to Ni Chaojie, head of Que'an Eel Farm, the domestic market has become the main market for Fuqing eels, forming a tripartite situation with Europe and Japan.
