Sunscreen PSA Project Breakdown & Script
1. Client – Who is this video for? Did you sell them on the idea, or
did they ask for it? If YOU are the client, why are you doing this
video? What creatively do you want to achieve? Why?
○ I want to create a public service announcement about
sunscreen emphasizing the effects of sun damage on
melanated people because I want this type of audience to be
aware that anyone is susceptible to the damage caused by the
sun and they can prevent that by wearing sunscreen. I feel like
there’s this misconception that people with melanated skin don’t
have to wear sunscreen, so I want to clear up those
misunderstandings and spread awareness.
2. Concept – Explain what you envision this project to be.
○ I’m imagining two people laying down in the sun and Danielle
passes a bottle of sunscreen and then asks JP if they want to
put sunscreen on and he’s about to say no. He’s reluctant, but
then there’s a freeze frame on his thoughts about sunscreen.
His thoughts will be told through voice over about the
importance of sunscreen, skin damage, skin cancer on
melanated people. There will be shots of both of them putting
on sunscreen, wearing sunglasses and they will be blurred with
the main topics on screen as text. Then it goes back to the
scene of Danielle giving him sunscreen. This time he changes
his mind and shakes his head or says yes and grabs the
sunscreen. The video will end with the words WEAR
SUNSCREEN.
3. Style – What will it look/feel like?
○ The video will look informational but also try to make it a little
entertaining.
4. Audience/platform - Who will watch this, where will they watch it?
○ The audience will be everyone, especially melanated people.
This video will be watched on YouTube mostly, but can also be
found on social media platforms.
5. Script – This should be in the 2-column format. If you have
interviews, this can be a pre-shooting script. If you have
graphic-heavy content, what we see on the screen should be
included in this script.
