2. FILTERING THE RESUME
Some companies are still using the methods as mentioned on the previous slide of eligibility criteria.
Well some companies may ask you to send your resumes to them. Then the filtering process will begin. They
 will filter you based on,
  Academic projects,
Other than academics such as, club activities and your responsibilities, sports, volunteering, etc.,
Involvement in government funded projects (TNSCST),
National projects or International projects on your field,
  National and international competitions.
Some companies may filter you by sending some sort of forms or activity based questions or case studies to
you and then you have to answer those questions to prove that you’re the right candidate to them. Please have

GAINED EXPERIENCES:
Most of us are not really cared about this online test i.e., aptitude test. Some of us may have natural talent of math skills and
aptitude knowledge, they will easily clear the aptitude round and may or may not struggle in following rounds such as GD, HR
round. Some of us can have good communication skills which enabling them to clear the other rounds but lag in aptitude
round. Every recruiter would go for the student who having both of the skills.
In my learned experience, I have seen many of the students were struggled in the aptitude test and failed while returning
disappointed and felt guilty. After that moment, you have planned to finish all the aptitude questions within a day and hold
them in your fingertip by having a thought of “overnight Obama” (day dreaming) and also with the help of “vetrikodi kattu”
motivational song. Definitely it will not work. Aptitude skills doesn’t come easily like you think. Like an old saying “Practice
Make a man perfect”, so you have to prepare daily and practice sample questions each and everyday. We are always doing the
same mistake “Eleventh Hour preparation” (Injurious to our career). I wish you are not going to do the same mistake like us.
Let me tell a story of a student about his final year placement season. He came from a village having less exposure and
awareness. Finished diploma and joined in an engineering college. He don’t know about the placement process and those
online tests. During the end of third semester only, he knew that there would be an aptitude test, group discussion, technical
 interview etc.,
 How Placement Works 9
GAINED EXPERIENCES: (CONTD.,)
But he was totally unaware of those rounds and also don’t know how to crack them. Most probably lateral entries were not in
practice with aptitude and math skills because they have been taught practical knowledge only. So he lack in aptitude skills.
Then he decided to learn and practice aptitude at the beginning of final year. On the same month BOSCH had arrived. His first
core company, he was not prepared which turned into a practice match for him and failed. Have you ever thought, how much it
will hurts you. Then again he decided to prepare and within a short time an another company came and he attended. Again he
failed. There was no time for him to master the aptitude skills. He attended each and every company but he failed every time.
That sacrifice and practice made him to clear the first round after 15 companies. What if, your dream company was a practice
match for the aptitude round, then you have to sacrifice and take it as next step. That’s how he moved to next company even if
it was non-core. At last he cleared first round and going to second round (group discussion) which again turned into his
practice match. After he learned techniques and again he tried to clear the GD after 5 attempts and gone to next round
technical and general HR round. Which again turned into practice match for him. Again he learned about those rounds gone to
attend a company which was his last company, last semester.
After two rounds he was asked to attend a new round called cad model round or software round. However he cleared that
round and got an offer letter from the company which was not his dream job, dream company and totally away from his dream
career, He is just working for the sake of his family situation. Most irritating thing is, after clearing all the rounds and next go
for HR round suddenly getting rejected from the HR round without knowing why you are not selected
 How Placement Works 10
GAINED EXPERIENCES:
You may think that why he telling these stories to us and why would we need to hear this from a failure student.
What I have learned was , I swear, after graduation you will going to enter into a new world which is entirely
different from our college life, school life, like you are entering into an ocean. We all are treated like the same
who have just finished engineering in a college. They don’t treat like he is from this college or that college unless
otherwise you’re graduated from IIT, NIT, pretty well you know about those colleges and their graduates.
Getting a job is really not easy as you think unless
you are going to do higher studies
going to manage your dad’s business
 going to start a company
having references or contacts in your dream company.
I know you all will get a job and earn a salary. But Ask these questions to yourself,
Is this job will satisfy for your entire career
 is this your dream company
do you want this kind of jobs
do you feel happy and enjoy doing

INTRO ABOUT GROUP DISCUSSION
GD, is a methodology used by an organization (company, institute, business school,
etc.) to gauge whether the candidate has certain personality traits.
In this methodology, the group of candidates is given a topic or a situation, typically
given some time to think about the same, and then asked to discuss it among
themselves for a specific duration (which may vary from one organization to another)
There are plenty of resources regarding the GD, so make use of it and clear this round.

BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE - 3
Most of the people are fall into these categories that I have mentioned. Know your type and keep practicing. Do’s
 and Don't
If you’re the initiator, just give a small intro and get into the topic. If you create a precise path about the
topic, others would follow you and impress the panelist on your first impression.
If you’re the data giver, then be precise about your statistics (like captain vijayakanth sir), definitely you
can impress with your data and can create a valid points. Don’t overload the occasion.
If you’re the opposer, you must have to be polite and gently oppose your team and tell the reason why you
are against his/her point. With valid point and valid solution over his/her thought you can impress the
panelist i.e., you’re opposing in a right kind and given a solution for that. You will be impressed by the
 panelist.
If you’re the speaker, be confident on your points and having good communication skill you can impress.
Also give chance to others. Don’t take too many attempts. Use some connecting words for fluent
 discussion.
 How Placement Works 20
BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE - 4
If you’re the follower, start with connecting words to continue others opinion like “I agree with him/her
and say your valid point. Don’t say or repeat his/her point. And also don’t follow him/her blindly. Say the
reason behind it and continue with your point.
If you’re the audience, oh wait! Do you want to be like the spectator type. Really they wont prefer you. Try
not to be like this. You are all performer and gonna impress them with your speech. So be bold and
confident. Keep practicing everyday until you get your confident.
If you’re the leader, you are the one who lead the discussion into right path. Not everyone will be a leader.
Your attitude will choose you to be a leader. Don’t dominate your team members, don’t quarrel with each
other. Speak kindly and give your valid point. If the discussion is not relevant or away from the topic then
you must interrupt with kind words and keep track of the topic. Be a timekeeper to finish the topic within
the given time. Motivate others to break their shyness and give chance to others.
If you’re the summarizer, then you are the one who going give the detailed summary about the discussion.
You should tell about the topic discussed, difficulties faced, detailed data's, solution to that topic,
everything clearly about the discussion held. Don’t take too much time

Inferring the data from the previous picture/graph, it has clearly shown that only 382 (excluding ME) were
placed in relevant field. Others were placed in irrelevant field and some others even not yet placed. Even among
382 some of them may placed through luck. Only a few alone were placed by using their skills. This is due to
 these case scenarios,
  Lack of seriousness
  Lack of required soft skills
  Inadequate Technical skills
  zero practice in Aptitude skills
  Negative Personality traits
Problems or confusions created by your fellow candidates
  Dilemma during placements
  Less Opportunities

If an opportunity knocks your door don’t waste it and also don’t spoil other’s opportunities. Start preparing before it

Always learn from the failures of other’s because that will show you what not to do, rather than asking ideas from
