What is Remote Scan ？
Remote Scan solution is officially available starting in Dynamic Web TWAIN v18.2. It allows end users to access scanners of various protocols (TWAIN, SANE, ICA, eSCL, WIA) on the Intranet through any devices and any popular browsers, without any extra software installed.
Benefits:
- One PC is connected to the scanner and all the other devices can use the scanner.
- Users can scan on any devices like PCs, mobile phones and tablets.
- Dynamic Web TWAIN Service is not required to be installed on every end user device. (At least one needs to be installed to communicate with scanners)
Architecture:
The end-user device can either connect to a service or a proxy server to scan documents:
- Connect to a service: the RESTful API added in Dynamic Web TWAIN v19.0 enables document scanning using other programming languages by direct communication with the Dynamic Web TWAIN Service.
- Connect to a proxy server: we can use proxy server to manage multiple Dynamic Web TWAIN Services. It has wrapped JavaScript functions and is easier to use.
In this documentation, we’ll use the proxy server approach.
