Set the default style for blocks

You can set the default styling for specific block types across your entire site allowing you to set a consistent style quickly. In this guide, you will learn how to customize how all blocks of a particular type appear when used on your site.

This feature is available on sites with our WordPress.com Premium, Business, and Commerce plans, and the legacy Pro plan. For sites on the Free and Personal plans, upgrade your plan to access this feature.

Set default style for blocks

Using the Blocks settings in the Styles section of the Site Editor lets you customize the default appearance of individual block types across your entire site. This helps maintain consistent design without manually styling each block and saves time when creating new content. When you apply a default style, any blocks on your site that do not have a custom style will use the new style. You can still customize individual blocks through each block’s block settings.

To set the default styles for specific block types:

  1. Go to Appearance → Editor.
  2. Select Styles from the left-side menu.
  3. Click Blocks at the bottom of the Styles panel.

    • Use the search bar to look for specific blocks by block name.
