Hide page titles using the Site Editor

Every page needs a title, but you may not want that title to be visible on the page itself. If you want to hide the title from appearing on your site, follow the steps in this guide.

Requirements

To follow the steps in this guide, choose a theme that supports the Site Editor. A quick way to determine if your site uses the Site Editor is to check for Appearance → Editor in your site’s dashboard. If you see Appearance → Customize instead, you are using a classic theme that does not support the Site Editor.

Why hide your post or page title

When you create a page, the first thing you will do is give it a title. A title makes it easy for you, as the site owner, to know what the page is for. A page title is also important for SEO so that search engines will show the title in their search results.

However, there may be situations where you don’t want the title to appear visually on the page’s design. For example, you may not want the page title to appear on your site’s home page or on specific pages.

Remove the title from a template

A template is used to set up the overall layout of specific types of pages or posts. In this section you will learn how to remove the title from a template. That way, pages, or posts that use that template will not show the title.

Follow these steps to remove the page title from a specific template:

  1. From your site’s dashboard, click on Appearance → Editor.
  2. On the left side panel, click Templates.
  3. Click the template you want to hide the page title on. If you’re not sure which template to select, learn more about the most common types of templates.
  4. In the editor, click the Title block.
    • In some cases, for example, some homepage templates, the title is a Header block instead of a Title block.

  1. Select the three dots () in the block toolbar and choose the Delete option from the drop-down menu.

  1. Click the Save button at the top-right of the editor, and the title will be hidden on all pages that use that template.

You can add the Title block back to a template at any time to restore the titles to those pages.

Remove the title from specific pages or posts

If you want to hide the page title from specific pages or posts, you will create a unique template that you will apply to those pages or posts.

First, you will create a new template, and make sure the Title block is not part of the template.
