Guides/Edit your website/Site settings/Set your admin interface style

Set your admin interface style

Your site’s dashboard is where you edit content and manage settings. WordPress.com offers two different styles for this dashboard. This guide will show you how to switch between the two admin interface styles.

Interface styles

WordPress.com provides two different views to manage your WordPress site:

  • Default View: WordPress.com’s modern dashboard design with helpful guidance and streamlined navigation.
  • WP Admin: The traditional WordPress dashboard with a dark sidebar menu, familiar to WordPress users.

Both interfaces provide access to the same features—the difference is only in how they look and are organized.

Choose your interface style

To set the admin interface style used for all of your site’s users, take the following steps:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Settings → General.
  3. Scroll down to the “Admin Interface Style” section.
  4. Choose between “Classic style” or “Default style” options.
  5. Click the “Save settings” button. Your admin interface style will update automatically in a few seconds.

  1. Log into your WordPress.com dashboard.
  2. Visit the specific dashboard page you want to change the view for.
  3. Click the “View” tab at the top of your screen.
  4. Select between the “Classic view” and “Default view“.

📌

If you do not have the View tab, verify you’re on a page that offers the option to switch views (listed below) and check to make sure “WordPress.com Log In” is set to the ON position at Settings → Security → WordPress.com Log In.

When you switch to Classic view, it will not change back to the Default view unless you intentionally return to this view using the View tab.
