Use the default homepage

Block editor themes include a default homepage. When you visit Appearance → Editor, the preview that is displayed is your site’s home page. You do not need to adjust any settings to use this page.

Follow the instructions in our guide on editing the default home page to customize how your homepage looks.

Set the homepage from settings

Classic and third-party themes may have you set a specific page as your site’s home page. To set the homepage of your site, follow the steps below:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Settings → Reading in the sidebar:
Under "Settings", the "Reading" menu option is highlighted.
  1. Locate the “Your homepage displays” setting at the top of the screen.
    • Make sure your site has at least one published page for this setting to appear.
A static page is selected, and pages are chosen for homepage and posts pages.
  1. Choose from the following options:
  2. Click the “Save Changes” button to save your selected homepage.

⚠️

If your theme uses a Front Page template, this template will be what is displayed as your site’s home page, regardless of what you set in the reading settings, or what you see when you open the Site Editor.

My homepage disappeared!

If your homepage has gone missing, do not worry! You may have switched themes, replacing your site’s homepage with the new theme’s homepage. To recover your old homepage, you can take either one of the following actions:

  • Check in the Pages → Drafts section of your site’s dashboard for the old homepage content. It may be available here, depending on the theme.
  • Switch back to your previous theme to access the old content again. If you have forgotten the name of your previous theme, you will find it in your site’s Activity Log
