In your website’s Newsletter settings, you can enable newsletter categories so visitors can subscribe to specific topics rather than all content you publish. This guide will explain how to set up newsletter categories.

Have a question?
Ask our AI assistantNewsletter categories allow visitors to subscribe only to specific topics on your blog.
Newsletter categories are disabled by default, so all posts are emailed to your subscribers. If you enable newsletter categories, only posts you publish under the categories you select will be emailed to your subscribers. Posts published in other categories will not.
Here’s an example of what your subscribers will see when subscribing to your site with newsletter categories enabled:

To email a post to all of your subscribers in a category, you must set the category before publishing the post. Currently, there isn’t a way to re-send an email to a subset of subscribers within a category.
You can also pre-select the categories visitors are subscribed to in individual Subscribe blocks on your site.
If you have set up a paid newsletter, your subscribers can choose which categories to subscribe to after paying the subscription fee. You will still set a post’s access level to “paid subscribers only” if you want only your paying subscribers to receive a specific post in a category they’ve subscribed to.
To set up newsletter categories, follow these steps:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Jetpack (or Jetpack → Settings on plugin-enabled sites).
- Select Newsletter.
- Under “Newsletter categories”, click the toggle for “Enable newsletter categories” to the ON position.
- Select the categories you wish to allow your readers to subscribe to. Any categories not selected here will not be available for subscription.
- Click the “Save Settings” button.

When you enable categories, your subscribers will be automatically subscribed to all existing categories. Subscribers can control which categories they subscribe to by visiting “Manage Subscriptions” in the Reader or by clicking the footer of a newsletter email they received.
To update the categories that your subscribers are subscribed to, you can re-import them and select the new categories. Their subscription will be moved to the new categories. Make sure you have permission from your subscribers before making this change.
