【Global Tech Report】 According to Bloomberg, Google has launched an ambitious program to train 2 million Android developers in India. This strategic move aims to strengthen the mobile app ecosystem and compete head-to-head with its rival Apple.
Google's official statement reveals that the program, named "Android Skills", will be offered free to hundreds of public and private universities as well as vocational training schools across India. Notably, the program will be promoted nationwide through the Indian government's National Skill Development Corporation.
Caesar Sengupta, Vice President of Product Management at Google, stated: "India is expected to have 4 million developers by 2018, surpassing the US to become the country with the largest developer population worldwide. However, currently only 25% of developers are working on mobile applications."
Sengupta further emphasized that Google will provide free courses to tens of thousands of Indian developers, with the ultimate goal of helping India become a global leader in mobile app development.
It's worth noting that Apple is also actively cultivating India's developer ecosystem. In May this year, during his first official visit to India, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the establishment of a Development Accelerator in Bangalore, India's tech hub, to provide technical support specifically for iOS app development.
Ankit Jain, Assistant Vice President of Products at market analysis firm SimilarWeb, commented: "The intense competition between these two tech giants for Indian developers shows that the Indian market has become a new focal point in global tech competition."
