Recently, WordPress.com quietly implemented major plan changes, reducing from five paid plans to just two while significantly cutting free users' storage space and visit limits, sparking strong reactions in the user community.
According to user reports, the free tier storage has been drastically reduced from 3GB to just 500MB, with new traffic limits imposed: 10,000 monthly visits for free plans and 100,000 for paid professional plans. This change has caught many long-term users by surprise.
WordPress.com CEO Dave Martin responded on Hacker News: "We definitely didn't communicate this well enough, and that's on me." He explained the changes aim to simplify user choices, as the original five plans had become overly complex after 10 years of evolution.
