Norm of the North: Family Vacation

Norm of the North: Family Vacation

3.0

  • A vacation that ended in disaster.

I enjoyed the original Norm of the North, but this film is an absolute monstrosity.

The film does very little to improve on the last three films.

Voice performances can range from sub-par at best and even dreadful at worst.

This film had so many plot-holes such as characters knowing that Norm had a crown and while it was seen in the previous movies, it never has any significant importance and the Ice Boat from Harbin China to the Arctic Ice Circle, and so on.

There is some crude humor that some adults may not find appropriate for children, such as Norm kissing a child on his and Elizabeth's bed, which gives off pedophilia implications in a family film. (Keep in mind that Norm is a polar bear, so this also counts as zoophilia as well.)

There are also loads of other Plot-Holes that are never explained.

Unlike the previous films in the Norm of the North franchise, Norm of the North: Family Vacation is entirety a bottled film, as most of it takes place in both the Arctic and the Harbin, thus making this film visually boring.

Misleading title: Despite being named as Family Vacation, the family does not take a family vacation in the actual movie. What a waste of potential.

There is a scene in this film on the underwater that looks like it's copied from the hit Pixar film Finding Nemo.

Like the previous films, the characters are still unlikable, especially Norm himself.

Tiny is an extremely annoying character.

The "main villains" of the film, who are revealed to be the Fu's twin kids, are lame, and as stated in #6 of the plot-hole segment, their motives don't make sense.

Surprisingly enough, characters such as Olympia (tolerable character in the previous films) and Vera Bright, who have been there since the first film, do not return, nor are they even mentioned.

At least the lemmings appeared much less than the previous Norm of the North films. There can be some admittedly funny moments here and there.

Overall, Norm of the North: Family Vacation is an absolute disgrace to animation. Please stick to way better animated films, such as those from the likes of Pixar, DreamWorks, Blue Sky, and Illumination.
    Too Loud, Thomas!

    Thomas & Friends

  • Thomas at his absolute worst

This is one of the worst Thomas & Friends episodes ever.

This episode is a seven-minute ordeal for Thomas. However, this time, he has only himself to blame as he carelessly sings too loudly, resulting in the loss of his voice.

In this episode, Thomas becomes quite bothersome as he attempts to perform opera, inspired by Lorenzo and Beppe's singing. His efforts, however, result in discomfort for the other engines and citizens, with his singing even leading to a little girl's balloon popping and her subsequent tears.

This episode appears to contradict the established continuity regarding Thomas's singing ability. In "The Great Race", "Journey Beyond Sodor", and "Big World! Big Adventures!", Thomas has demonstrated considerable singing talent. However, in this instance, he is oddly depicted as a poor singer.

Not only is this a torture episode for Thomas, but it can also be considered a torture episode for Lorenzo & Beppe and the citizens of Italy as well.

The infamous scene where Thomas' singing voice causes the screen to break and makes him lose his voice.

As always like in most episodes of the BWBA era, the imagination scene is nothing but pointless & boring filler.

Despite being told that he's too loud, Thomas still continues to sing despite the criticism & warnings he got from the others until he breaks his voice.

At least Thomas gets his voice back at the end.

Do now waste your time with this episode. Stick to better ones.

  • This Finale Derailed The Franchise

This is a very bad way to end the original Thomas & Friends franchise, and here's why.

To get the elephant out of the room, it's an extremely disappointing series finale of an iconic show that ran for over 30 years. To make matters worse, there is NO chance of the original show ever returning since Mattel has screwed every fan over since the announcement of Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go because they wanted to pander to little kids and cannot accept that older people enjoyed the show as well as children do. Ultimately, this means that the Thomas franchise as people know is dead and gone forever.

Although Thomas is not really unlikable in this episode, the character choice to have him be the main role of the episode isn't 100% necessary here because Nia was already given the job to help out for the animal park in the episode, "Nia and the Unfriendly Elephant". Nia would have been the right role since she did manage to help out a stubborn elephant that wouldn't go onto her flatbed.

The concept of the engines dressing up as animals is very stupid on practice and is another example of bad writing from this era. By now, who even cares about concepts that are only existent for actual merchandise and not actual episodes?

The plot is rather weak, uninteresting and very boring. Similar to other episodes of BWBA, it stands out for all the wrong reasons.

Speaking of the plot being uninteresting and boring, the pacing is boring because of how sluggish it is. Of course, there are slow paced episodes in the series, and they do a good job with the slow pacing in some episodes. But here it feels just as sluggish and bland as "The Other Side of The Mountain".

Despite appearing for a couple seconds each, Percy, James, Diesel, and Gordon are all unlikable in this episode, as they make fun of Thomas for his monkey costume he has to wear. Percy is also very out-of-character here, as he laughs along with the other engines about Thomas' monkey costume, when he is supposed to be Thomas' best friend.

Just like "The Magic Lamp", the episode's existence is kind of pointless because Mattel already released toy packs made for the Motorized merchandise range relating to the engines being dressed as animals with rolling stock included. Let alone make the episode just a 7 minute long run advertisement than just an episode.

Because of the statements made, "Thomas' Animal Friends" feels very rushed and is overall a very poor way to end the original series.

At least Thomas is still a likeable character.

This is a very bad Thomas & Friends finale episode. Please do not watch.
