Yiwu, a city just two hours' drive from Shanghai, has become an important trade hub connecting China with Africa and the Middle East. According to a 2016 report by Le Monde, it attracts over 200,000 Arab merchants and 80,000 African merchants to come for procurement every year, with about 3,000 choosing to settle here permanently.

义乌成功的秘诀可以从以下数据中窥见：3万家商铺、超过200万平方米的市场面积，商品种类几乎涵盖所有日常用品。2015年，义乌对非贸易额达到77亿美元，占中非贸易总额的2.7%。每天约有1500个集装箱从这里发往宁波港，其中20%运往东非。

The secret of Yiwu's success can be glimpsed from the following data: 30,000 shops, over 2 million square meters of market area, covering almost all kinds of daily necessities. In 2015, Yiwu's trade volume with Africa reached $7.7 billion, accounting for 2.7% of total China-Africa trade. About 1,500 containers are shipped daily from here to Ningbo Port, with 20% destined for East Africa.

来自塞内加尔的商人Souleymane分享了他的经历："我们在这里能找到所有商品。我平均每月发一个集装箱到非洲，收入足够养活我的家庭。"一位埃及商人则表示："我在这里以25元(4欧元)购买手表，在开罗以27元出售。虽然利润薄，但通过集装箱批量运输，仍能获得可观收益。"

Senegalese merchant Souleymane shared his experience: "We can find all kinds of goods here. I send one container to Africa every month on average, and the income is enough to support my family." An Egyptian merchant said: "I buy watches here for 25 yuan (4 euros) and sell them in Cairo for 27 yuan. Although the profit is thin, I can still make considerable profits through container bulk transportation."

9·11事件后，当阿拉伯商人前往欧美变得困难时，他们开始将目光转向中国。义乌因此成为"新丝绸之路"的起点，就像两千年前商队从西安出发一样，如今满载电子产品和塑料拖鞋的集装箱从这里启航，驶向非洲。

After the 9/11 attacks, when it became difficult for Arab merchants to go to Europe and America, they began to turn their attention to China. Yiwu has therefore become the starting point of the "New Silk Road". Just like the caravans setting out from Xi'an two thousand years ago, today's containers full of electronic products and plastic slippers set sail from here to Africa.
