How Effective is Wuzhong SEO Optimization? Is Google Pay-Per-Click Advertising?
There's no such thing as a free lunch, and that includes the mobile market. Google has just announced that it will introduce "sponsored" search results into its app store in the coming weeks. Paid search results are nothing new—web-based paid search is Google's primary revenue source. However, on mobile, Google has maintained a free strategy to attract users.
However, as mobile increasingly replaces desktop and investors demand additional revenue streams from Google, this move was inevitable. Officially, Google claims this is to help developers better promote their apps in the store.
The scenario works like this: when users search for a specific type of app, such as travel apps, they will first see paid search results, followed by organic listings. Paid results will be clearly labeled, and during the pilot phase, only developers already running search ads for their apps will be eligible.
According to Google Play Product Manager Michael Siliski, Android devices are now used by over 1 billion people across 190+ countries. Last year, Google paid out more than $7 billion to developers (Apple, though smaller in scale, paid out $10 billion). Such a massive user base presents a significant potential advertising revenue stream for Google.
However, Google faces a major challenge in monetization: fragmentation. Particularly in China, many mobile operating systems have removed Google services. How Google regains control of its core business remains to be seen.
