Thoughts of an IT expert

Does anyone know of an OsmAnd rendering style that resembles OpenCycleMap? It should highlight cycle networks with vibrant colors and fade everything else. Currently, I plan bike tours by first opening OpenCycleMap on my PC to get an idea and then using OsmAnd on my phone to actually plan the tour. Ideally, I would just use OsmAnd.

I tried to create an XML file for this using AI, but the result wasn’t what I wanted.

Update: I solved it by just using the online tiles from OpenCycleMap.

I stopped especially for this photo during a relaxed after-work tour today. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but the nature here with the park, forest, and lakes is really beautiful and always lifts my mood!

My current multi-phone strategy

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

Reply to: A comment by Jerry

I also have multiple phones (a Pixel and an iPhone), and when reading about others who use multiple phones I'm always curious: how do you handle data and phone numbers? Do you have a sim card that you move around, do you have multiple sims, or do you use one phone as your "main" phone and then use wi-fi or hotspot using the others when you need to?I've personally enjoyed having two phones, and since I do dev work on both it's nice to keep up with both OSes, but juggling is sometimes a struggl…

In response to a question a commenter named Jerry asked, I want to briefly explain my multi-phone strategy.

I bought an iPhone (as my third smartphone)

Published on in 📱 appydroid

I never thought I would do this, but I bought an iPhone. It’s a pretty cheap iPhone SE 2. Gen (2020) used from eBay, like the device I got issued from my work. It’s so tiny and it’s really difficult to type even a short text like this.

A bike ride to reset

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

After a tough last weekend, a little cold, and bad weather, I was really exhausted and not in the best mood this week. But I knew the weather would be great on Friday, so I planned a bike tour. A 47-kilometer round trip north where there aren’t many hills.

It’s autumn. Cloudy, windy, and occasionally rainy. But it’s supposed to warm up again this weekend, so will I go for a bike ride then?

eBay is great for selling electronics. If you put in the effort to take good photos and write a good description, you can make good money selling the things you want to get rid of. My virtualized router experiment ended with a few euros in profit.

My new walking pad & other upgrades

Published on in 💬 Micro

It’s been one week since I got my new walking pad, a King Smith WalkingPad Z1. I bought it refurbished on eBay with a couple of coupons, which brought the cost down to about 194 €, saving me about 100 € from the new price. In just the first week, I’ve already averaged more than 10,000 steps a day, all without even going for a walk outside. I think that’s pretty great.

In the mornings, I walk for an hour while I work, and then again for another hour in the early afternoon. Sometimes I wear shoes, sometimes I’m barefoot. By the end of the day, I can really feel it with a little muscle soreness.

While a walking pad won’t replace a real workout, I recently realized I wasn’t moving enough. I have a standing desk, but neither sitting nor standing all day is good. But moving is. So far, I feel like I have a bit more energy and can focus better.

I also bought two new small upgrades for my bike. I got a new bell because my old one was pretty quiet and people often didn’t hear me, which wasn’t very safe. I also replaced my grips with Ergon GP3-L Evo BioKork ones. The grips are more ergonomic, and the bar ends give me an alternative hand position on longer rides.
