Current Status and Challenges of China's Foreign Trade
According to the latest customs statistics, China's total import and export volume of goods reached 36.02 trillion yuan in the first 10 months of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 5.2%. Exports amounted to 20.8 trillion yuan, growing by 6.7%, with the trade surplus expanding by 17.6% to 5.58 trillion yuan.
However, experts point out that the 11.2% export growth in October may include "front-loading exports" factors. The global manufacturing PMI has remained below 49% for four consecutive months, indicating an unfavorable external demand environment.

Cultivating New Growth Drivers is Crucial
Bai Ming, researcher at the Ministry of Commerce's Research Institute, emphasized: "Stabilizing foreign trade in the future requires efforts to create new drivers. We need to not only develop the 'new three' (new energy vehicles, lithium batteries, and photovoltaic products), but also cultivate the 'new four' and 'new five'."
Responding to Changes in the International Environment
Regarding possible U.S. tariff increases, Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen stated: "History shows that imposing tariffs cannot solve trade deficit problems but will instead raise prices in importing countries. The stable development of China-U.S. economic and trade relations serves the interests of both peoples and the world."
