Hey Loura!

Iโ€™m a senior full stack engineer doing non-profit work in juvenile justice, a tai chi teacher, and a home/public school mom to a couple of wonderful children.

Since I just changed to a new blog design, here is a picture of my old one :)

Homeschooling today featured a meltdown around math being stupid learning about y = mx + b. At work there is a bug around an object not being deserialized into JSON correctly that I need to solve… sigh ๐Ÿคช Can I figure it out before the get the kids to swim practice shuffle begins? We shall see.

I finished another tai chi video youtube link. This was the prettiest spot I did tai chi during my vacation. Two more to go and then I’ll invest in a microphone and try doing some audio ones. I also need to figure out my own video hosting.

Yesterday I learned that I can still do cartwheels around the room. This morning I learned that my shoulder doesn’t like it ๐Ÿ˜†

So far I’ve avoided buying a new Hobonichi planner/cover with the launch. I don’t need one. I might wander over to a local shop and pick up one of their grid notebooks and folder sets next week. My pocketbook will be much happier with that arrangement.

I’ve been enjoying the Hobonichi reveal and these are my current favorites. I just love the mix of pink and red with the flowers. I have the a6 POTR cover from last year (love it!) and I was hoping they’d release it again so I could grab a5 for when I’m carrying my onyx boox around.

A man with glasses and a cardigan draped over his shoulders stands in a modern waiting area holding a bag and suitcase. An open notebook with floral illustrations and real tulips and berries protruding from it is set against a pink background.

Starting the morning with two things I love, tai chi and coffee.

A book titled ‘Taijiquรกn’ by Li Deyin is placed on a wooden table next to a green mug with a cat illustration.

I’m sitting at the local pond, working on my five year journal, while the kids are off swimming ๐Ÿฅฐ

I’m at a three day work conference and this is what happens when you ask me to un-package and prepare a bunch of binders for stuffing. A nice hollow hive design ๐Ÿ˜‚

A large pile of black portfolios is stacked on a round table in a conference room with empty chairs and tables.

Hello World

I’m excited to teach my son web development this year ๐Ÿคฉ

Two books titled 'Head First HTML and CSS' and 'Head First JavaScript Programming' are placed side by side on a wooden surface.

Movie night with my dad. Tonight is “Invaders from Mars” from 1953

My husband took the kids to the last swim meet of the summer session (to save me from another migraine this week). So… today will be filled with catching up in my 5 year journal, finishing part three of my Tai Chi video (part two here), some coding and playing animal crossing ๐Ÿคฉ

I finished editing the first section of a tai chi form I filmed on vacation. Even though I have no idea what I’m doing, editing-wise, I think it came out pretty good for a first attempt ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Micro.blog Discovery Ideas

I wrote this draft on 7/28/2025 when I wanted to expand a reply into a full post but then shelved it. Now, almost one month later there is another post complaining about the Micro.blog discover feed. Anyway, I thought it might be nice to gather all of my ideas on the subject in one place. My Ideas When I first started, I found the account Micro Monday very helpful to find people around Micro.

An ICRPG Hard Suit campaign - Session 0 Prep

So for the last few years I’ve been doing a Dungeon Crawl Classics, DCC, game in my dining room while the kids play their own game upstairs. But schedules being what they are, it has been increasingly difficult to find a time slot that worked for everyone. So playing once every six to eight weeks was common and now that their characters have gone up several levels in DCC… The amount of flipping through books to find rules or even just remember character abilities takes up a lot of our play time.

Blaugust 2025

I think I might try and post more this month and so are some others with Blaugust 2025. This is a collection post to gather up any posts I make this month. I have a personal goal of 15 posts this month across the normal things I post about: life, coding projects, and homeschooling. Let’s see what happens ๐Ÿคฃ ๐Ÿฒ Seventh Grade for 2024/2025 An ICRPG Hard Suit campaign - Session 0 Prep

108 Long Yang Form

As my Sifu always says “This is your form” and it should feel like “coming home.” After many years of practice, it finally does. The goal for beginners is to complete this form in about 15 minutes and as you advance you should slow it down. Every movement should flow into the next one and there should never be a moment where you are not moving. Advanced practitioners should aim for 40 minutes or longer.

And not in a good way. Which is why it’s taken me so long to write down what my kids have been doing for homeschooling.
