This is an important announcement from the founding and core development team of TensorCircuit.
We would like to inform you that the tensorcircuit repository hosted by Tencent is no longer maintained by us and should be considered deprecated.
The sole official and actively maintained version of the project is now TensorCircuit-NG. This is the only version that receives compatibility updates for new dependencies, bug fixes, and new features from the original developers.
Reasons for this Change
For full transparency, we want to share the reasons behind this transition: The entire founding and core development team of TensorCircuit has departed from Tencent. As a result, Tencent no longer possesses the expertise to properly maintain or advance the project.
The original team will not be responsible for any development or releases of the Tencent-hosted tensorcircuit library after August 2024.
We have already observed several unprofessional and concerning actions regarding the Tencent-hosted repository, including but not limited to:
Irresponsible License Change: The standard Apache-2.0 License was replaced with a non-standard license, creating potential legal and compliance issues for users and contributors.
Unprofessional Development Practices: Sensitive credentials, including a quantum cloud secret token and cache files, were exposed in the codebase, demonstrating a severe lack of security awareness.
Development Stagnation: Since August 2024, the repository has seen no updates or bug fixes. Community-reported issues and questions have been largely ignored, leaving the project unmaintained.
What You Should Do
We strongly urge all users to migrate to TensorCircuit-NG to ensure you are using a secure, stable, and actively developed version.
Uninstall the old version:
pip uninstall tensorcircuit
Install TensorCircuit-NG:
pip install tensorcircuit-ng
The users' code requires zero change, import tensorcircuit is still fine.
Please direct all future issues, questions, and contributions to the TensorCircuit-NG repository.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we embark on this new chapter. We are excited to continue building a powerful and community-driven tensor network library with you.
