  1. Actually I guess is the other way around! The more expert I get the more refactoring I do! As @Lars Fosdal said, cryptic code, WTF was I thinking code, Code that could benefit from modern RTL code if there's no performance penalty. For example: For lPair in SomeObjectList is slower than for i:= 0 to SomeobjectList.count-1. So I won't refactor it. Depending where the code is placed, I will use one form or the other. Replacing TStringList (used as dictionary) with a TDictionary/TDictionaryObject makes a huge diference!
  2. I want to create or calculate a unique 8-digit ID (checksum/hash/etc) for variable-sized texts. I am not sure the ID has to be a certain limited length depending on the length of the actual text, but I would like the ID to be as small as possible. I definitely don't want a GUID. EXAMPLE: Name comment ------ -------------------- car neon. sumvac is not my favorite any more but i do like the cooler autom car neon. RESULT: ID Name comment -------- ------ ------------ AT1UW72Z car neon. 0B1UR7PY sumvac is not my favorite any more but i do like the cooler autom AT1UW72Z car neon. I want to add RESULT to a database table. Duplicates are okay since I can use a query to remove them from a query/report run. Or, I can remove them completely (at a later time) and just have unique table entries. But in general, duplicate entries are acceptable. Is there anything already included in Delphi that supports this? I will be working in XE7 and/or 12.2 IDE's. Thanks in advanced.
  3. Two blog posts to share: https://blog.synopse.info/?post/2021/02/13/Fastest-AES-PRNG%2C-AES-CTR-and-AES-GCM-Delphi-implementation https://blog.synopse.info/?post/2021/02/12/New-AesNiHash-for-mORMot-2 TL&DR: new AES assembly code burst AES-CTR AES-GCM AES-PRNG and AES-HASH implementation, especially on x86_64, for mORMot 2. It outperforms OpenSSL for AES-CTR and AES-PRNG, and is magnitude times faster than every other Delphi library I know about.
