Export a variable

Export dashboard variables from the InfluxDB user interface (UI). Variables are exported as downloadable JSON files.

Export a variable

  1. Click the Settings icon in the navigation bar.

  2. Select the Variables tab.

  3. Hover over a variable in the list, then click the gear icon () and select Export.

  4. Review the JSON in the window that appears.

  5. Select one of the following options:

  • Download JSON: Download the dashboard as a JSON file.
  • Save as template: Save the JSON as a dashboard template.
  • Copy to Clipboard: Copy the JSON to your clipboard.

On November 3, 2025, the latest tag for InfluxDB Docker images will point to InfluxDB 3 Core. To avoid unexpected upgrades, use specific version tags in your Docker deployments.

If using Docker to install and run InfluxDB, the latest tag will point to InfluxDB 3 Core. To avoid unexpected upgrades, use specific version tags in your Docker deployments. For example, if using Docker to run InfluxDB v2, replace the latest version tag with a specific version tag in your Docker pull command–for example:

docker pull influxdb:2
