Since I took a deeper look into Markwon for #1008: Markwon provides a WYSIWYG edit component that could be implemented without big effort. Markwon's sample app provides a WYSIWYG sample, code is in this file: https://github.com/noties/Markwon/blob/master/app-sample/src/main/java/io/noties/markwon/app/samples/editor/WYSIWYGEditorSample.java
