This package install to /usr/local, that's not very Arch Linux. You should change to:

  ./configure --prefix=/usr

Hello! This package is old, and also doesn't seem to actually build/provide libalac. If you switch to using Mike Brady's repository I'd really appreciate it.

The source repo is not available (at least for the several days I've been trying, probably way longer): Cloning into bare repository '/var/cache/aur/source/alac'... fatal: unable to connect to git.macosforge.org: git.macosforge.org[0: 17.253.57.207]: errno=Connection timed out

This codec stands no chance against flac :)
