According to the "Chronicles of Yunnan Province Tea Import and Export Company", before 1973, Guangdong port exclusively exported "Pu-erh loose tea" made by blending Yunnan sun-dried green tea with local tea and Vietnamese green tea. Later, Guangxi, Hunan, Sichuan and other provinces also began to produce Pu-erh tea using small-leaf varieties for export.

In 1973, Kunming Tea Factory successfully trial-produced large-leaf Pu-erh tea and began direct export. That year, 10.2 tons of "Seven-son Cake Tea" worth $16,300 was shipped to Hong Kong's Tak Sun Hong. By 1985, Pu-erh tea exports to Hong Kong and Macau increased to 1,560 tons worth $2.4917 million.

南天茶业公司由周琮先生上世纪50年代创立,70年代末至90年代成为香港最大的头盘商,对云南普洱茶在香港的垄断地位。该公司引入的7542(俗称"88青")和独立研发的8582、8592两款茶品至今仍被收藏家追捧。

Founded by Mr. Zhou Cong in the 1950s, Nam Tin Tea Company became Hong Kong's largest first-hand dealer from late 1970s to 1990s, monopolizing Yunnan Pu-erh tea distribution. The company introduced the famous 7542 (known as "88 Qing") and independently developed 8582 and 8592 cakes that remain highly sought-after by collectors today.

Historically, 8582 and 8592 were reproduced in three batches after 2000 (2005, 2009 and 2011). As China's domestic Pu-erh market develops, quality teas will gain more recognition, just like in Hong Kong's market 40 years ago - authentic good teas will ultimately prevail.
