根据《云南省茶叶进出口公司志》记载，1973年前，广东口岸使用云南晒青毛茶混合本地茶和越南青茶制作"普洱散茶"独家经营出口。随后广西、湖南、四川等省也先后用小叶种茶制作普洱茶出口。
According to the "Chronicles of Yunnan Province Tea Import and Export Company", before 1973, Guangdong port exclusively exported "Pu-erh loose tea" made by blending Yunnan sun-dried green tea with local tea and Vietnamese green tea. Later, Guangxi, Hunan, Sichuan and other provinces also began to produce Pu-erh tea using small-leaf varieties for export.

1973年，昆明茶厂成功试制大叶种普洱茶，开始自营出口。当年调往香港德信行七子饼茶10.2吨，金额1.63万美元。到1985年，普洱茶出口港澳增至1560吨，金额249.17万美元。
In 1973, Kunming Tea Factory successfully trial-produced large-leaf Pu-erh tea and began direct export. That year, 10.2 tons of "Seven-son Cake Tea" worth $16,300 was shipped to Hong Kong's Tak Sun Hong. By 1985, Pu-erh tea exports to Hong Kong and Macau increased to 1,560 tons worth $2.4917 million.

香港素有"茶港"之称，每年进口各种茶叶2-3万吨，本地消费8-9千吨。70%以上的茶叶从中国进口，其中普洱茶年销量约4千吨，云南普洱茶约占40%。
Hong Kong has long been known as the "Tea Port", importing 20,000-30,000 tons of various teas annually with local consumption of 8,000-9,000 tons. Over 70% of tea is imported from China, including about 4,000 tons of Pu-erh tea annually, with Yunnan Pu-erh accounting for about 40%.

The pivotal role of Nam Tin Tea Company
南天茶业公司由周琮先生上世纪50年代创立，70年代末至90年代成为香港最大的头盘商，对云南普洱茶在香港的垄断地位。该公司引入的7542(俗称"88青")和独立研发的8582、8592两款茶品至今仍被收藏家追捧。
Founded by Mr. Zhou Cong in the 1950s, Nam Tin Tea Company became Hong Kong's largest first-hand dealer from late 1970s to 1990s, monopolizing Yunnan Pu-erh tea distribution. The company introduced the famous 7542 (known as "88 Qing") and independently developed 8582 and 8592 cakes that remain highly sought-after by collectors today.

香港茶人对云南普洱茶的评价是：汤色红浓明亮，有独特陈香，叶底褐红色，滋味醇厚回甜，茶性温和可口，可以清饮，老少咸宜，是一种良好的保健饮料，故称云南普洱茶为"真正的普洱茶"。
Hong Kong tea connoisseurs describe Yunnan Pu-erh as having "bright red liquor color with unique aged aroma, brownish-red brewed leaves, mellow and sweet taste, gentle and pleasant character - suitable for all ages as a healthy beverage", thus called "the authentic Pu-erh tea".

Market challenges and future development
历史上8582和8592在2000年后又生产过3批次(2005年、2009年和2011年)。随着国内普洱茶市场发展，优质茶品将获得更大市场，正如40年前的香港市场一样，真正的好茶终将获得认可。
Historically, 8582 and 8592 were reproduced in three batches after 2000 (2005, 2009 and 2011). As China's domestic Pu-erh market develops, quality teas will gain more recognition, just like in Hong Kong's market 40 years ago - authentic good teas will ultimately prevail.
