Nowadays, many people choose to buy clothes in online livestreams, some of which also sell leftover goods. Imagine being able to find a desired "leftover" clothing item in a livestream for very little money, and it's a unique "one-of-a-kind" piece that others "missed out on". Doesn't it sound tempting to wear something no one else has?

This is exactly how many people ended up buying so-called "leftover unique items" in online livestreams, only to discover upon receipt that some had obvious stains, unpleasant odors, wrinkles and pilling, or even contained miscellaneous items like loose change, earrings, or melon seed shells in the pockets.
Investigative reporters found that in the nationwide secondhand clothing recycling and sorting industry, the so-called "premium goods" they select are supplied to "leftover unique items" livestreams. These secondhand clothes, now given the more discreet new name "premium single pieces", are in high demand across the country.
In the sorting workshops of secondhand clothing recycling plants, reporters encountered several groups of operators from "leftover unique items" livestreams coming to purchase goods. They all admitted they wouldn't tell consumers in the livestreams that they were buying secondhand clothes.

In more extreme cases, hosts in other livestreams discovered insect eggs during broadcasts. It turns out these livestreams only perform basic treatments like sprays, ironing, and attaching tags before selling, without proper washing or disinfection - a concerning practice.
Currently, consumers are purchasing these so-called "leftover unique items" without knowledge of their true nature and under unsanitary conditions.

Su Haopeng, an expert from the China Consumers Association's Expert Committee, stated: "This behavior by merchants is typical fraud - passing off fake as genuine, inferior as superior, and old as new. It seriously violates consumers' right to know and fair trade, and is explicitly prohibited by Chinese law."
Leftover goods are leftover goods, and secondhand goods are secondhand goods - the two should not be conflated. Merchants should maintain basic integrity when selling products. Selling old clothes as new not only violates consumers' right to know but also constitutes potential fraud.
