Hey! I’m a big fan of Where Is Charlie King and I noticed that in Charlie’s annotation of a poem (sailors) they reference “Nowak’s poem Sinsenient”… but I can find neither hide nor hair of this poem on the internet! (nor of the poem sailors… was it written for WICK?) The word “Sinsenient” doesn’t even seem to exist. So I was wondering if I misread it or if you two pulled it out of your noggins? I know it’s such a little detail but it piqued my interest so I thought I’d ask. WICK? is just chock-full of little details and I treasure that about it. It is brimming with life. You really created a beautiful work.

I’m so glad you enjoyed WICK!! The referenced poem doesn’t exist - I wanted to hint at a wider world than what we get to see through the project without actually pulling in any real-world references.

I did all the long-form writing for the project, including the sailors poem! it was a fun challenge trying to write a semi-decent poem that someone might want to annotate, and even more fun to write Charlie’s half-baked first attempts at poetry. Another fun fact is that I had to hand-highlight 100 copies of this poem for the print edition lmao. Here’s the poem for anyone who hasnt read WICK (which you can pick up as a limited edition print copy or a PDF copy! it’s about a missing vampire in the early 2000’s!):

sailors

your storm lands in my lungs
every pulse in my chest tells me

the steel of your words fights for
space twixt my veins

the wind cuts through my every dreaming bone
it whips at my throat and carves its path through

the chill kiss of the air
as it meets my hot insides
calls itself obedience

you claim it a courage to be battered and torn
windswept like a sail to be tugged on as pleased
to be twisted by gales named a mercy by those
whose castles were built with my teeth and my skin

my feet do not move
as the storm keeps its course
i do not move for you.
