Jacob Fine, a PhD student conducting research at the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research, has been awarded the 2025 Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship, which will support Fine’s research in developing computational and statistical approaches to analyze and model RNA codes that govern gene regulatory networks.

A global initiative to increase diversity among researchers working in mass spectrometry, called the OpenMS Fellowship Program, has recently wrapped up after successfully recruiting and training new talent in computational biology. The program, initiated by Hannes Röst, associate professor of molecular genetics, and organized by Mohammed Alhigaylan, a graduate student in the Röst lab, has helped seven scientists develop programming skills needed to conduct research in proteomics and metabolomics.

Mikko Taipale, Canada Research Chair in Functional Proteomics and Proteostasis and Anne and Max Tanenbaum Chair in Biomedical Research at U of T, has been promoted from associate professor to professor as of July 1, 2025.
