one area of active confusion for me: What to do about draw-loopers: 1. only support imagefilter on the root-paint 2. only support imagefilters on the instance paints 3. both I think the current patch does #1, but I think that's probably wrong -- we should at least support 2, if not 3.

Another issue (perhaps resolved later) -- folding imagefilter and colorfilter together, so there are not two different objects occupying effectively the same position in the pipline. I think I favor that folding, but I can stomach making that change along with understand imagefilter in the first place...
