Glass Number 50 Capillaries

Applications

  • X-ray data collection
  • Liquid-liquid diffusion crystallization
  • Gel acupuncture crystallization

Features

  • Thin walled – 10 micron
  • Glass Number 50 (Glass 0500, borosilicate)

Description

Glass Number 50 (Glass 0500, borosilicate glass) capillaries that are extremely thin walled (approximately 10 micron wall thickness). The length of the capillary has a well defined diameter, with one end having a funnel shape and the other end closed. Glass capillaries have a wall thickness of 0.01 mm and an overall length of 80 mm +/- 5 mm. Glass capillaries are available in a wide range of outside diameters from 0.1 mm to 2.0 mm. They are designed to mount, hold, and store small molecule and biological macromolecular crystals for x-ray data collection. Capillaries can also be used for crystal density measurements and crystal growth experiments. The capillaries can be sealed tightly against moisture and gases using wax, epoxy, or other sealing materials.

In determining what glass or quartz capillary is right for you, please refer to the “Linear Absorption Coefficient µ cm-1” table. This table indicates the amount of radiation that is absorbed by the capillary during x-ray data collection.

For 0.1 mm to 2.0 mm capillaries the open end capillary tube base size is 3.0 +/- 0.15 mm OD x 0.13 +/- 0.10 mm Wall thickness.

The Diameter is measured  about 30 to 40 mm from the closed end (measuring instrument: LaserMicrometer LS 7500) The tolerances are as follows.

Converse Concentration Devices

Applications

• Ultrafiltration
• Concentration and / or diafiltration for purification of biological samples
• High solute concentration solutions
• Protein and DNA desalting/buffer exchange
• Nucleic Acid concentration
• Recovery of Genomic DNA
• Removal of contaminants

Features

• No centrifuge needed with specially designed Pressure Caps
• Ready to use, just add sample
• Ideal for both small and large sample volumes ( 0.5 ml. to 20 ml.)
• No cross contamination, enclosed unit
• Specially selected low absorption membranes
• Ultrafiltration reversed preventing any membrane blockage
• Particle laden samples can be used
• Converse orientation results in very rapid filtration (10 minute protocol)
• Large dead stop, no risk of drying sample
• Multi-use if kept wet

Description

SWISSCI Converse S and L Ultrafiltration Devices have been specially designed to ensure rapid and easy concentration procedures. The reverse direction of flow combined with the large membrane surface area leads to high processing speed and excellent sample recovery. Up to 150x concentration factor possible if desired. Buffer exchange is simply achieved with Converse Devices.

No centrifuge is needed as Converse Devices can be run with specially designed Pressure Caps. Pressure Cap Results have been shown to be superior against devices run through a Centrifuge; increasing the concentration speed and factor. Centrifuge can be used if desired.

The concentration is controlled by the liquid retained in the bottom of converse outer tube and cannot go to dryness. Minimally we can give a nominal volume of 50 microlitres in the L and 20 microlitres in S devices.

SWISSCI Converse S and L both come with specially selected membranes with MWCOs of 3, 10, 30 or 100kDa. The Swissci Converse S is ideal for smaller sample solutions of up to 8ml and the Converse L is suitable for larger sample solutions of up to 20ml.

Hanging Drop Seal

Applications

  • Hanging drop vapor diffusion
  • 96 round wells

Features

  • ANSI/SLAS 1-2004 Standard
  • Accommodates 3 separate drops of protein per well
  • Fits standard 2 or 3 drop MRC plates
  • Fits Greiner 655101 microplate (Hampton Research HR3-139)
  • 100 micron thickness
  • Choice of UVP compatible or non-UVP compatible material

Description

The Hanging Drop Seal is compatible with the 96 Well Clear Polystyrene Flat Bottom Microplate by Griener Bio One.

The revolutionary SWISSCI Hanging Drop Seal (UVOP / Non-UVP) comes ready to use with a dust-free protective coating and specialty polymer base. The Seals accommodate up to 3 separate drops of protein and fit the standard 2-drop or 3-drop MRC plates as well as Greiner 655101 microplate (Hampton Research HR3-139). The product has a 100 micron thin layer of UVP specialty polymer developed for compact drop creation and ability to shoot X-ray without any noticeable diffraction. The non-UVP seal comes in 100-micron layer.

The SWISSCI hanging drop seals can be run with individual drops in the 96 positions or 192 drops – or 288 drops. The volume of the drop is typically between 50 and 100 nanolitres. The seal covers sit directly over the microwell plate crystallization reagent wells and are closed with a long term resistant closing adhesive which is validated not to ingress into the sample, nor lead to seal corruption.

To remove an individual crystal the seal may be peeled back or simply cut out with a knife. The material is very thin although still remaining as a perfect evaporation barrier and can be sliced with a knife very easily.

The seals are produced in a class 100,000 cleanroom environment and are dust and scratch-free. Optical quality is of the highest level available. The seals are able to be used in the UV / Non-UVP range thus enabling the user to recognize salt – from protein crystals under a UV source microscope.

Adjustable Crystal Mount

Applications

  • Adjustable, magnetic crystal mounting with capillaries or fibers

Features

  • Adjustable Z
  • Magnetic mount
  • Fits XYZ Goniometer Heads with Z Platform or magnetic base
  • Fast, easy, and convenient crystal positioning and retrieval

Description

The Adjustable Crystal Mount is a magnetic piece (approximately 12 mm in height, 9.8 mm in diameter) designed to position a brass specimen pin and either a capillary or glass fiber onto a goniometer head for x-ray data collection.

The Adjustable Crystal Mount is engineered to fit onto the Z Platform or magnetic base within a goniometer head. The recessed bottom properly positions the crystal mount over the center of the goniometer head and prevents the mount from sliding across the goniometer head during data collection. The bottom of the crystal mount is flat and closed to prevent the brass specimen pin from protruding through the bottom of the mount. The magnetic design allows for quick, convenient, and rapid placement and retrieval of the crystal mount. Finally, the crystal mount is designed with a single allen screw which allows the Z-translation of the brass specimen pin to be adjusted (up and down) and then secured in position by tightening the screw using a goniometer head key or 0.88 mm allen key.
